Don't you know who I am?

Fauci all along has said that we need to get it out there, and get it done sooner rather than later. That's been his message the whole time. If your state is messing up, because the whole rollout from Day 1 has been a mess at the Fed level, which created more confusion for the states, then let's start there. Had the Federal gov't taken the stance of actually coordinating resources, she might have a point.

    • We're at 65 million total doses already. Imagine that result 4 months.

Well in the course of a couple days he went from saying it would be April/May to now likely June/July before mass rollout comes. (partly due to the J&J issues and so on so it makes total sense) Stuff like that is what is what is frustrating some. (leave Whiney McCain out of this) He seems to the untrained eye to often flip flop between positivity and negativity.

The problem is (oh the delicious irony) that because Biden and his version of government is being pretty open and honest about it all, the projections and information change cause, science. This of course is not really a problem (and I am not complaining) but it does cause confusion. For example in the course of a day or two the CDC said one thing about teachers going back, Fauci said a different thing, The Veep said another thing and Biden contradicted them all. It can be stressful if you are paying super close attention because there is no answer there. People want answers not "well this is what the guideline says". We can read the guidelines, stop worrying about upsetting the Teacher's Union and just say "While we hope to get all teachers vaccinated before they go back to work in truth that isn't possible yet so precautions will need to be made". Rip the band-aid off we all know it is coming.

(which again is a million times better than the BS we had 6-10 months ago)

Andy Slavitt needs to do more to get the facts out there because he is able to make it much more palatable for people. The Biden Administration needs to get him out there more. People had been lead to believe for so long that once a vaccine was out that would be the giant leap to re-opening that every time a target moves it gets them a little bent out of shape. He does a great job explaining why these targets move, what they mean and so on. Right now the CDC and the Oval don't really do a great job of that IMHO.

        • IMHO, the biggest problem with COVID and the vaccine right now is that things are still changing REALLY fast.

As opposed to words and no actions, where nobody really cared, we changed immediately on Jan 20, 2021- and the fluidity of the situation has not changed, yet. Of course, noting that people are still banking on CDC and Fauci's word back in Feb 2020- that drives a lot of the doubters nuts. But the situation change is real.

It would be nice if they all talked together- and all knew what has changed in the last hour.

But it's kind of nuts. Here in SE MI, Wayne Co decided to help, so they managed to arrange 1000 doses to put out. And got 1,000,000 calls for them. People want instant results and changes, and can't deal with the fact that we are still in the roll out phase for the vaccine. Let alone the fact that some of the administration of a vaccine are being done by groups that have never done it- so they have to make their own infrastructure brand new.

Expectations are super high, as they should be. But some realism has to be part of it.

We are just over a month into this administration, trying to put together a system to vaccinate over 1M people per day. Ramping up the supply of that is really hard.

Yeah, Texas and this pandemic should be ending anyone wanting them in charge of anything ever again. Unfortunately to get there the human not only has to have a brain, but has to be able to process information and come to a rational, logical conclusion.

That excludes at least 50% of the country right now.

People don't vote R for issues, they vote them for tribalism.

Otherwise nobody would have voted R for "fiscal conservatism" after Reagan's deficits, or "security" after Dubya's Baby Huey foreign policy, or "running the gubmint like a bidness" after Dump's ineptitude and corruption.

People vote R because they hate us, personally. OK, so we get that. But we don't ever have to listen to their excuses again. They will go on hating. Our job is to be good citizens and deliver good governance. Nobody on the Right will ever be swayed, but with time there will simply be fewer people who fall into that pit of self pity and impotent fury.

                    • Without looking shouldn't the amount per state be more uneven based upon population disparities?

They’re allocating based on the number of Senators each state has - totally fair, right? :<)
If you don't change the world today, how can it be any better tomorrow?

This is idiocy, as for me. The vaccine should be distributed, it seems to me, taking into account the level of infection. First of all, it is necessary to vaccinate those who are at risk and priority red zones, where the risk of infection is higher.

                          • Not sure why it took so long to have this come to mind... but I posted where the US hit 500,000 dead and considered the comparisons between cancer and heart disease....

But COVID has been the #1 cause of death for a few months now in the US.

Heart disease takes just under 700,000/year, which is under 2,000 per day. Thinking that there is some considerable scatter in that, the actual daily average of 1904 rounds up well to 2,000/day. IIRC, COVID took 2,000/day back in December, so COVID has been the #1 cause of death in the US since early December, and it will remain that for some time. (one month was just barely under 100,000 or over 3000/day- over the last 30 days)

Feel free to keep downplaying that this is a minor virus, like a cold, etc....

You'll never see me downplay covid, but to add some context the 7-day average for new cases has been falling since January 12th and as of yesterday was it its lowest since October 25th, although it slightly went up yesterday. I hope that trend continues and if it does deaths are surely to follow in the coming weeks. All of which will hopefully be accelerated as vaccinations continue along.
