    • Contact tracing in this country is still pretty much hit or miss. When I had my first confirmed exposure to someone who subsequently tested positive (and incidentally has had symptoms for well over a month now) I was contacted by people from both county and state health departments in WI. But since my exposure to two other people who subsequently tested positive in Illinois, I have not heard from anyone alerting me that I was in close contact with people who were confirmed positive. One of those folks is quite sick with extreme fatigue, a heavy cough, initially a high fever, and later on when he felt like it realizing his sense of taste and smell was gone. I know for a fact had either of these people been asked, they would have provided my name and contact info as someone they spent time with in close proximity.

Like a lot of other things, we are in the bottom 10% of the world when it comes to our response to COVID-19. Among our many faults, one of them is far too many of us have our heads in the sand. We are an embarrassingly weak nation.

Since the '89 earthquake nuked the Bay Bridge, probably a fair number. Before then everybody thought the GG went from SF to Oakland.
Me! My half-brother lives in Marin County. He’s from southern Illinois, so he started out R before moving out there ~20 years ago turned him into a D. He said he voted for Gore and hasn’t looked back.

Wow. You are like Iron Child/Man now. How was Adult Daycare?

Hopefully it’s more effective than last year when it hardly worked at all. Also, of all the Flu deaths last year half got the shot.

Cool story. So a vaccine will be next to worthless or offer what about 6 weeks of immunity?

              • North Dakota has asked people to do their own contact tracing due to uncontrolled spread and lack of willingness to participate with contact tracers.

I feel like this is what the people of North Dakota want, not gonna bother with any empathy

                  • 130k of our deaths could have been avoided.

Given how it developed in this country, I honestly think 130k is quite low in terms of number avoided.

We were weeks behind Europe in terms of development, quite equal with S Korea- so had procedures been followed out of the blocks- especially tracking people coming from places that had outbreaks- it sure seems that the whole thing could have been contained.

In theory, of course. Since we are so effective at ignoring other countries, many people would have been complaining hard about too harsh, and that this was so much less harmful than influenza (let alone, people just die). So in that respect, probably 130k is about right.

No doubt, though, virtually all the deaths since June could have been prevented- including all of the red state suffering going on as we speak. They are getting exactly what they asked for- so I, too, have a tough time feeling sorry for them.

Man how dense do you have to be to at this point to not know that the reported deaths "yesterday" or any date are an accumulation of many months now. And in many cases death certificate matching.

Your above reporting does zero to give the proper context of what is going on right now.

                          Covid19 facts in Minnesota:
                          > Long term care – 1% of population, 70% of deaths
                          > Rest of MN – 99% of pop, 95% of cases, 99.9% survival if infected

The graph below illustrates the risk profile from the Dept of Health. Detected cases blue. Deaths orange. It is to scale...

                          • Context can be so much more valuable than a daily headline...

                            > 94% of all deaths in MN this year have been unrelated to covid
                            > 25 of the 35 new deaths were in long term care
                            > Outside long term care, the covid survival rate is 99.9%
