Not that this will ever happen, but I've told my wife that if I ever write a successful novel or series of novels, she's not to sell the rights to allow other authors to continue the saga with my name plastered on the cover. I'm thinking all the new Jack Ryan books, specifically, with Clancy's name in bold font and the real author in tiny print at the bottom. I'm not bothered by tv/movies etc. since those are different mediums.

Once it's in the public domain, whatever. But that particular brand of commercialism bothers me to no end.

The sad thing is over the years artists truly have been screwed over (Bill Finger being probably the best example but so many more) but poor Little Alan, one of the most celebrated comics writers of the last 40 years, just has to pretend he is the true victim.
I think poor little Alan actually has paranoid delusions. Dude lives like a hoarder/prepper, doesn't bathe, and none of his partners are redheads. He's certifiable.

It's Tom Clancy ferchrissakes. Nobody could be more of a whore than he was.

I agree with you when we're talking about literature. Nobody should have allowed Harper Lee to write a sh-tty sequel to Truman Capote's beautiful work.

He likes them young...oh and he likes to publish ]Trash like this. That was released as a hardcover while I worked at the store and while I am HARDLY a prude (and am a card carrying member of the ACLU so love the First Amendment) and dont usually care about stuff like that (hardly the first sexually explicit comic) there were rumors as to why he wanted to put this out. At best he is preying on the weak and socially awkward by showing Dorothy Gale masterbating but more than likely this is the crap that gets him off and he knew no major comics publisher would let him do it when he was still working for them. Throw in he sure does like to put rape and brutalization of woman in his comics (even mainstream stuff like having Batgirl beaten and paralyzed by the Joker) and it isnt hard to put two and two together.

Again he is hardly the first...but this altruistic BS that he was "screwed" that the Moore disciples love to trot out there (not you Scooby) always ignores this stuff for a reason. We had one of them at my store and even he thought Moore was nutso by this point.

I can too...the copyright thing sucks. I understand him being angry over it and it shows a level of pride that he never accepted the money from the printings. He is hardly a victim though. Hell he isnt the first or last guy to sign an awful deal...lest we forget Superman was sold to DC Comics for $100 back in the day. (because no one else would buy it) Bob Kane signed a deal putting his name on everything Batman related and screwing over Bill Finger who created the vast majority of the things in the Batman universe. Hell even Jack Kirby has more of a claim to being screwed over than Moore did...

If Moore was doing this on behalf of them he would be a hero...but he is doing this because he thinks he is God's gift to literature.

I had bought a copy of that back in the day without realizing what it actually was, not really knowing Moore outside of his works that had been published. Once I had a few minutes with it, the book went right into the trash. That was a fair amount of money down the drain.

Is there still a Moore cult? They all gotta be in their 80s. He's been a known creep for the entire lifetimes of younger readers. And he won't even attract the incel types because he's hardcore left (which is why the reflex charges of misogyny strike me as ludicrous).

I never buy the lazy idea that artists who present rape or brutality are rapists or brutes. I think they see that sick world as a canvas where emotions can be drawn out and experimented with. This almost certainly means they are desensitized or in some way distant, in other words, f-cked up, but for an interesting artist it's almost a given they are going to be f-cked up in some way. Emily Dickinson can't string together 3 lines without showing she's completely off the beam.

"Corrupting the youth" is an old, disreputable charge. It almost always tells me more about the accuser than the accused. Show me that he's got carcasses in his basement and we'll talk (it's not beyond my ability to imagine). But art is art. What happens in your head is not what happens in your heart.

I know what you mean. Used to be a huge Clive Cussler fan, although his later books were pretty much churned out by rote, but I refuse to read any of the books written by "him" and the many other authors he pairs up with. Not sure if I've even read any of the Dirk Pitt books his son has written.

Although when I was younger, I never had an issue with any of the Conan boks that other writers finished based on an unfinished work, or just an outline from Robert E Howard. Maybe if I read them again now, I might notice the differences.
What kind of cheese are you planning to put on top?

Yep. He's a huge Watchmen fan. Turned down the project twice. They told him they were going to do it without him so he caved. It's awesome.
