Here's the SPLC write up. They are a fun bunch. I'd like to see them square off against the Stephen Millertards.

        • Dumpies make the best neighbors.

A man in Arkansas received a racist note after putting up an inflatable Black Santa in front of his house.

Chris Kennedy, who lives in North Little Rock, received an anonymous racist letter condemning the decoration, according to CNN. Kennedy read the letter during a livestream on Facebook.

"Please remove your negro Santa Clause yard decoration. You should not try to deceive children into believing that I am a negro," the letter said, according to THV11. "I am a Caucasian white man to you and have been for the past 600 years. Your being jealous of my race is no excuse for your dishonesty."

          I'm sure he's a Thumper, too.

When I heard this, I came to two options for him... Can't think of another.

                        1) he's lying.
                        2) he's telling the truth, but is so dumb to understand that the rest of the country realized this between Nov 3-4 as some pretty racist complaints about the votes were rolling in all across the country. Which means he's to dumb and clueless to be a Senator.

Either way, he's far from qualified to be running this country.

                        • From my grad school work last week:

Do you think racism should be categorized as a diagnosable mental health condition? Why or why not?

Please defend your answer using the definition of mental disorder from DSM (below) as well as professional experience and personal opinion.

"A clinically significant behavioral or psychological syndrome or pattern that occurs in an individual and that is associated with present distress (e.g., a painful symptom) or disability (i.e., impairment in one or more important areas of functioning) or with a significantly increased risk of suffering death, pain, disability, or an important loss of freedom. In addition, this syndrome or pattern must not merely be an expectable and culturally sanctioned response to a particular event, for example, the death of a loved one. Whatever its original cause, it must currently be considered a manifestation of a behavioral, psychological, or biological dysfunction in the individual. Neither deviant behavior (e.g., political, religious, or sexual) nor conflicts that are primarily between the individual and society are mental disorders unless the deviance or conflict is a symptom of a dysfunction in the individual…" (pp. xxi–xxii in DSM-IV, not TR)

You have to be taught to hate.

And historically, the racism toward black people is rooted in the excuses that slavery that was importing people from Africa was not only ok, but it was a great way to do business. It's interesting to note that a massive amount of the world's racism can be traced back to the UK, and it's acceptance with trading people for profit- US, India, Australia, South Africa, etc.

Agreed. I don't think we want to starting labeling what we disagree with as mentally ill. Sure us forum rubes say these people are mentally ill all the time, but none of us are making a medical assessment. Racism may be a symptom of an underlying condition, it's not a diagnosis. I'm not sure what the symptoms are, how would you make an objective diagnosis, etc. What do you do for unconscious bias?

Do we really want to start 5150ing people for ideologies? What about religion, do we want to start labeling people who believe in an omnipotent being without any proof? What if they're just agnostic? What about if they're Muslim but not Christian? It leads to all sorts of nasty outcomes I don't think we want.

Conversion therapy likely had roots stemming from the fact that homosexuality was considered a mental disorder and it was actually in the DSM. People found the behavior to be morally wrong, but that's the problem. Morality has no place in science.
