    Many of the career employees serve on various boards within the various security agencies after leaving. So they need the clearances. That was explained on NPR this morning.

And those are the people with most of the guns. This country is going to be a mean and ugly place to live no matter who wins the elections for another generation at least. And that's even IF the good guys win.
      It's scary to see local election ads touting who is the better supporter of the moron in the white house. So there are a LOT of people who buy into this crap, and enjoy being dropped to the bottom of the barrel.

      We may see the stuff going on in Georgia- as that's national news, but here in Michigan, they are bragging on who is the more real supporter of dumpy. Amazing.

              after they leave government they carry with them a great deal of knowledge that might be useful. The sometimes retain clearance for some period so they can be consulted.

                            Not really, it's a long expensive process to get one, so if you leave a job they remain active for two years so you can take a new job without having to go through the process of getting a new one. Simply having an active clearance does not mean you can view classified data. To view any classified data you need to be cleared at the right level and have a need to know. The need to know part is just as important as the clearance part.
