THat research has been going on for a bit. It is more a question of ethics and defining 'abnormal'/what needs to be fixed.
. They did a fascinating piece on NPR about autism included family members and high functioning autistic people on the panel. There was some question if the things we are seeing are in response to the changes in our environment (increasingly disconnected societies do not need people who are hyper aware of social cues etc). Lots of discussion about whether these traits were the new normal.
