Based on the toilet, it looks like it was even plumbed. Illegal rental? Criminal hideout?

Worth noting, Part I was posted two years ago. Several people called him out.

Here's the best comment of the thread

Sorry it's a real hassle to get in there, and also no good reason to go up there. But we had to check on some things so I though I might as well take some pics.

No good reason?! Sir there is an ENTIRE A_SS HOUSE in your fricking attic LOL

I mean my account is 11 years old it says and this is easily one of the topmost fascinating things I've ever seen on Reddit. Can't wait for future updates. ATTIC HOUSE!

wait, toilet? Which picture are you looking at?

Nm. Several links scattered throughout parts 1 and 2..

It was apparently a rooftop house above a store of some sort. Then the store was converted to a church. In the process of converting it to a church, they just built around the mother**** and put a roof over it. The church has since been converted to a house.

            • Well, our vacuum broke this week. Looked at repair parts but it's just barely worth it. They're available but the thing is probably 15-20 years old. My wife inherited it and it's time to eBay it for parts. We wanted something that's going to be able to handle the tornado of children and the mess they leave.

Decided to splurge and get a Miele. After teaching reviews of and the major brands including shark, Dyson, kenmore, Hoover, etc. We are firmly against contributing to eWaste. I couldn't bring myself to spend $150-$200 on something that's going to break in two years. Plus the nightmarish brush assembly from shark scared me off from them. Dyson sounds like they've coasted for about 15 years and most of their **** is just great marketing now. I wanted something that can be serviced and have parts available.

Plus Miele happened to have a 20% off sale on the model I wanted so....

Holy moly. This thing is (relatively) quiet. You used to be able to tell at the end of the driveway if someone was vacuuming. You could literally hold a normal volume conversation with someone in the same room while vacuuming.

It's also very compact. Shockingly small. A little clunky to use since it's a canister. But since I grew up with one, it'll come back pretty quickly.

It's also quite well built. I'm pretty sure I could hit a telephone pole with the metal tube and it wouldn't even dent.

Switching from bagless to bags, hard to tell if it's picking up more than the old vacuum but I have to believe it is.

Which Miele model did you get? My old one(from like 2003) lasted me almost 2 decades, but at this point I kinda need a new one
Does any1 have experience with building reinforced shelves? My shed is kinda full at this point but I'm not sure if normal shelves would handle some of my stuff(I've got like crates of brass from https://gritrsports.com/ gun store back in the day and those take a lot of space...

                        • In the “this is why you test things before you need them” category: AC problems.

Heat wave this week and improbably the first time we had to turn on the air all year. Usually there’s a week or two in April you might have to flip it on or definitely by the start of May, but we got to Memorial Day this year. Turned it on Monday night as the upstairs was still pretty warm. Woke up it was still running, which seemed odd given the temperatures outside had dipped into the 50s overnight. But didn't give it too much thought. Last night turned it on and after a couple hours realized it didn't feel all that much cooler in the house. Checked the thermostat and it had only dropped a degree from 78 to 77. Put a thermometer to the vent and it's only spitting out 75 degrees. Now, it's an older unit, but it was still giving me high 50s last year, so clearly something is wrong.

The first thing any search gives you for AC is to change the filter, which I needed to do anyway. Got that done and go back upstairs and take out the thermometer. Now it's giving me 72 degree air, but since the sun had gone down at this point I'm pretty sure that was just due to the timing. Again leave it running last night, just because it was still in the 80s outside around midnight, so 72 is better than nothing. Clearly something is wrong. We had it serviced last September after realizing how dirty it could be when we cleaned out the broken condensate pump and humidifer line, but the AC/Furance side wasn't easily accessible so I figured I would go with a professional. I'm almost certain that we ran it after it was serviced since it was just after Labor Day, otherwise I think I would haven noticed an issue last year. Plus I'd hate to try to go back to them after this long saying they broke my AC.

The most telling thing is that the condensate pump is bone dry. If there's literally nothing going into that, that means this is essentially running in fan mode, right? I've tried searching for that one specific symptom to see if it would help diagnose the problem overall, but all the results are just for condensate pumps failing, which this one has not. Reading up on other potential fixes or reasons that show up online (minus spraying the condenser with water) and they all appear to be things that should have either been noted or fixed last year either during our own DIY cleaning or when we had the servicing done. Seems odd that it would go from a tune-up to failing in such a small window of run time.

                          • After watching a couple videos I think I've narrowed it down to a bad capacitor or compressor. Really hoping it's the former, though the latter might kick start us into getting a whole new system which was likely on the horizon anyway. Making a call tomorrow morning and see how quick I can get a diagnosis.

Yeah, just watched a video on replacing it. Definitely doable as DIY. Going to try that one on my own and then if that doesn't fix it make a call. Luckily it's still getting cool at night so the house doesn't get too bad until 5 or 6ish during the day.
