That is a horrible analogy. People who live in a neighborhood are either paying rent or own...they have a financial stake in what is going on so if some developer wants to do so something you are ****ed right they should be informed especially if it in any way involves demolishing property or displacing people.

unless eminent domain is being used, something which many states cracked down on in the wake of Kelo, it's not like they can be forced out if they own. And if you rent, there's always the possibility of your lease not being renewed.

We arent talking about eminent domain I was answering Lynah's question and showing him why his analogy sucks. And whether someone's lease is renewed ornot again has zero to do with the point being made. If someone lives in a neighborhood (and is paying to do so) they have every right to know what developers plan to do.

And I disagree to the extent it doesn't directly impact their property. I know the area across the main drag from my house is zoned for commercial. The owners don't have to come to me every time a potential developer has interest. Now odds are there will be press releases anyway, but the point is they don't have to notify me personally even though I'm in the neighborhood.

Exactly. You don't ha e the right to determine what happens to someone else's property unless you've entered into some sort of covenant agreement (HOA) any more than they have a right to determine what you do with yours, so long as they are respecting applicable laws and regulations. Don't like it? Then work to change the laws or maybe get a law passed that would require disclosure any time a thought of development crosses someone's mind. Good luck with that.
