Prior to 1969, America treated her LGBT citizens as not even human. We were blacklisted under McCarthyism, arrested for affection in public, and had cruel psychiatric experiments conducted on us. Parents found to be LGBT had their children stripped from them because the parent was deemed mentally unfit.
There were protests, speeches, and attempts to educate. But no one really listened because cishet feelings took precedence over our rights.
But at Stonewall, June 28, 1969, when police raided the nightclub and attempted to arrest us under false pretenses, we fought back and we fought back HARD, chasing the cops from the area. You think Pride events were always parades and flags and ****? The first Pride was a riot.
And even here in 2022, as LGBT rights are being dismantled or progress is being stalled because of cishet feelings, guess what? It might be too late for my 40 year old arthritic ***, but the kids are coming. And to say they're angry is a big understatement.
