  • Phoenix rolling 24-hour mean has now exceeded 100 degrees for 390 consecutive hours, dating back to July 1. Peak was on 7/15 when it reached 106.5

Local max for that interval is only 117. Pfft. Amateurs.

Looks like we might be able to keep it up for another 250 hours or so.

I experienced a few similar stretches when I lived in Bahrain, although I don't recall exactly if the L was always >100 without factoring in the Heat Index.

Well, it has dropped below 100, but the 24-hr mean hasn't.

I remember about 1993 a friend who had moved to Phoenix called me at 2 a.m. raving it was 101 and he had gotten drunk and would not get sober until after an entire day passed where it didn't break 100. As I recall, he only stayed drunk for about 4 days. Those were better days.

Keep in mind, we've been under a fairly long La Niña pattern which means, generally, wetter years for the Midwest. That would explain the deviation the last several years. That changes this year.

Even with that neither of those tables suggest to me that over the long-term that winter/spring/fall has been worse.

edit: lololol. If this happens I'll eat my hat. Wet bulbs in the mid to upper 80s

To be fair, it was a very very laughable long range forecast with terrible accuracy. Subsequent model runs haven't shown anything close to it.
