  • Thanks all - we made it through the worst of it structurally and no flooding in the house. We lost a total of 4 trees and as before some wood panels. Electricity was back on for 1 hour at 5 pm, then out again and still out when I left to go into the office. Safe and sound - now trying to hear from my employees.

        • My fellow Minnesotans, have fun with your last minute Xmas shopping! It looks like we've got a recipe for icy roads, and the salt trucks won't really be of much use.

          From the National Weather Service...

          Today
Rain and snow before 3pm, then snow, possibly mixed with freezing rain between 3pm and 4pm, then snow after 4pm. The snow could be heavy at times. Patchy blowing snow after 3pm. Temperature falling to around 22 by 5pm. Windy, with a west northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest 20 to 30 mph. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Total daytime snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

          Tonight
Snow, mainly before 1am. The snow could be heavy at times. Widespread blowing snow, mainly between 7pm and midnight. Low around -2. Wind chill values as low as -22. Windy, with a northwest wind 20 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 50 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible

          Thursday
Patchy blowing snow before 9am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 6. Wind chill values as low as -24. Blustery, with a northwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.

          Thursday Night
Partly cloudy, with a low around -4. Wind chill values as low as -14. Northwest wind 5 to 15 mph.

          Christmas Day
Mostly sunny, with a high near 20. West wind 5 to 10 mph.

ETA: It's been sprinkling rain for the past while around here. Fun stuff!

            • Meh the last time we were supposed to get massive snow we got like 2 inches here. Was a similar forecast they just got the time of the deep freeze wrong so most of the snow ended up being rain which was salted away quite easily.

              • Well I saw the temp drop so I went out and did a couple of passes on the driveway and walkway. Got rid of all the slush and put down some pretty decent salt so should be all good. Mostly blowing snow right now but wanted to get rid of as much watery stuff as possible before the deep freeze.

                • I planned to do some preemptive shoveling once my work day ends. My MIL and FIL are both in their 70s and will be here tomorrow evening. It won't take long today before it's too cold for the salt to do its job.

Today we lost power for the third time since moving into this hellhole of a city. F Xcel Energy. In all my time in Farmington, I lost power once, for about 10 minutes in all of the 15 years I lived there. And Xcel charges more for both gas and electric than I was charged by MN Energy Resources (gas company) and Dakota Electric (fairy wind company).

Where do you live? I think the only time I lost power because of the weather was during the tornado this summer in Golden Valley.
