Re: Campaign XXVI: The Drumpf World Order
Last week I made a point to my wife, who is mortified/horrified/fearful that Donald Trump has been elected.
My point is this.
We've done some horrible s h ! t in this country in our 240 years of existence, and even in the years before we actually formed the government under which we now operate.
We burned people at the stake because we thought they were witches. We shipped in a bunch of people from another continent, made them do our work and kept them chained up so they wouldn't run away. We nearly eradicated a race of people who lived on the land before we got here, and those we didn't kill off we just rounded up and kept them on reservations. We used to round up all the mentally handicapped people, put them in institutions and perform experiments on them with chemicals, etc... We had people who would hang other people of a different skin color and take pictures of the group like it was some sort of picnic. And this is just a tiny fraction of the horrible things we've done here.
Is it something of which to be proud? Of course not. Did the country survive, and actually improve itself in some small measure because of these things? I think so.
Does anyone really think we're going to do things in the next four years that will be as bad as or worse than these things we've already done? I don't.
The Republic will survive, and no matter how bad anyone thinks Trump will be, I think it will lead to a measure of improvement of us as a whole.
