In fact, even after being told how toxic his attacks on her were, he doubled down. Twice.

What on earth has given you the impression this isn't an impulsive man who gets what he wants?

That last sentence of yours is baffling. This is a man who thought going after a gold star mother was a good idea.
He's always been an impulsive man, but he's also a man who demonstrated that he's willing to listen to people when he reigned in his antics over the past six months, give or take. Most situations he'll see over the next four years will be pre-planned. It's those situations where he has no time to prep that do make me anxious.

He has to learn from mistakes. As much as anything, I'm looking for reasons to remain hopeful for our future. If he doesn't learn, then we're in for an exceedingly long four years.

They want the roads, parks, and other infrastructure in good shape. They want good schools, and they want to go to sleep at night and not worry about the door being busted in at 3 AM.

They don't mind paying taxes, but they want the money they send to the government to be used wisely. They care about the military, especially when one of their own is serving. If he/she is in harm's way, they'll pray for them at church.

They expect their representative to be representative of them and their views. The may not agree on everything, just on most things.

As Tip O'Neill said, "All politics is local."
Jason Lewis won his seat with a mere 7,000 vote margin, roughly 2% of the vote. If he's seen as being too aligned with Trump he'll go down in two years.

Do you know the context from which that line was taken? He was actually making the exact opposite argument using a ridiculous form of rhetoric to make his point during his radio show. Of course, that all doesn't play well in an opponent's attack ad.

The thing that concerns me more than anything else, and it never gets talked about, is that the national debt has quadrupled since the turn of the century. Apparently Trump wants to lower taxes but I'm not sure how on earth that makes any sense. I'm sure all of us would love to pay less taxes but we can't continue to go further and further in debt. At some point there are going to have to be significant changes to both sides of the P&L, and I hoped this is something he would confront, but it sounds like at this point he isn't going to.
As I understand it the debt isn't a huge issue yet, we still can borrow as much as we want on 0% interest and have a great credit rating. But you're right you don't want to increase it to the point where those things aren't true anymore.

Yeah, he'll have no problem getting re-elected regardless of what Trump does.

                  http://www.startribune.com/lewis-boo...hts/369306761/

In his criticism of the court's ruling which legalized same-sex marriage, Lewis questions the federal government's role in defining marriage and also in outlawing slavery:

In fact, if you really want to be quite frank about it, how does somebody else owning a slave affect me? It doesn’t. If I don’t think it is right, I won’t own one, and people always say ‘well if you don’t want to marry somebody of the same sex, you don’t have to, but why tell somebody else they can’t. Uh, you know if you don’t want to own a slave, don’t. But don’t tell other people they can’t.
You're correct that rhetorically it is ridiculous, because the dude is so racist that he can't even comprehend that the slave in his ****ed up scenario is an actual human being with basic civil rights.

I'm aware. But I also know that the Independence Party's candidate got 28,000 votes for that seat - four times his margin of victory. He'll be a first time incumbent in the 2018 race, hardly in a strong position right until he can prove himself. I live in a very prosperous district, joe. It's also a district that has traditionally paid close attention to its candidates and doesn't often have blowout victories. I half think Rep. Kline retired because of bad prospective polling data.

More from that same blog post:
While Lewis called the goal of ending slavery "laudable" in his book, he also wrote that the Civil War Amendments have "regrettably grown to include the policy preferences of individual judges that have little to do with the plain language of a particular amendment."

Many anti-Trump people ripped him for not having a plan/policies/etc (and that was justified).

Now that he's been elected, he'll magically pass anything he wants, cash in (so to speak) on ALL the left's fears? All of a sudden he has an agenda?

I'm just waiting for him to screw up and in that case I'd crucify Trump, I really am. He, to me, was the devil we didn't know. We knew what would happen if Hillary was elected.

I personally think he won't get anything done that will REALLY harm this country, and I really hope I'm right. I REALLY hope I'm right.

And I'll be right in front of the line criticizing him (and related staff) if they do something harmful.

The point is...let's see what ACTIONS happen, and stop judging on speculation.

Yeah we should do that...because that is what the Righties around here were doing when Obama got elected. All we can do is speculate there is two months to the inauguration...

And just because he doesnt have a plan doesnt mean he wont do things and fast. The two are not mutually exclusive. Maybe he wont do anything and if so we are all better off but considering the campaign he ran, the lies he told and the people he is surrounding himself with I doubt it. He isnt exactly surprising us right now except that he has already backed off promises and he hasnt even been President Elect a week.

Personally, barring a war I dont see him getting re-elected unless the Dems put up someone lame and Clintony like Howard Dean.
