Entrepreneurs and start ups loved it and have seized the day. A blue sky full of business opportunities.

The healthcare industrial complex hates it. They have to behave like other industries with open markets - consumers can shop by price and they have to serve everyone.

Very interesting story in Wired about how the Trump team used Facebook as a research tool to refine and hone his campaign messages.

Facebook proved to be a powerful way for Trump’s team to hone the campaign’s message with the kind of enormous sample sizes you can’t get with traditional polling....Coby’s [Trump advisor] team took full advantage of the ability to perform massive tests with its ads. On any given day, Coby says, the campaign was running 40,000 to 50,000 variants of its ads, testing how they performed in different formats, with subtitles and without, and static versus video, among other small differences

Anyway, many hospitals have a significant number of foreign born doctors. That and the fact that heathcare stocks were down on the prospect of Trump repealing PPACA makes me think your story is 100% bull****.

I know our entire senior leadership was dismayed by the election of trump and that includes MDs and PhDs

A ton of researchers, unless you're distinguishing between "health care" and "medicine."

As an outsider it seems to me the division is roughly:

A+ students become researchers
A students become doctors
A- students become administrators
B students become lobbyists
C students who don't mind sucking a cock to make a sale become pharmaceutical reps

My company employs hundreds of PhDs doing research. But all the people doing lab to bedside translational research have MDs or MDs plus PhDs.

Plus the people doing research are probably largely NIH funded and are probably more worried about government funding drying up and not the affordable care act

I agree with you that people who manufacture equipment used in the healthcare industry see plenty of good opportunity. There is also plenty of opportunity in research.

My comment was primarily about healthcare providers. They* all hate being forced to join conglomerates. Almost all practitioners in our state have been forced to join larger groups because of the law's administrative requirements (this was an intended outcome by the way, you know those greedy doctors ordering unnecessary tests and all that blah-blah-blah) There are a few independent practitioners left, but not very many, and they are all older with an established base of referral sources.

There is no opportunity for "customers" to "shop by price" because the same conglomerate now owns every medical practice in the entire area. Meanwhile, the time you have to wait to get an appointment is now longer than ever, because practitioners are spending more time in front of computer screens (because of the law) and less time actually seeing patients.



* "all" being every one I know, not everyone in the entire country.

Wasn't it Obama's campaign that really jumped on the social media wagon for their advantage? Certainly Hillary had an early lead on it with her campaign, but it seems like Trump's campaign knew the nuts and bolts parts of social media's systems a little better.

The "Moneyball" of this campaign is all these small things that seemed inconsequential at face value helped win the election.
