He isnt angry but he is dismissive. He kinda sounds like the people who dont understand why Blacks arent better off than they are seeing as slavery ended in the 1860s and the Civil Rights Act was quite a few decades ago. Not out of racism or bigotry but just because through the lens of their life that is plenty of time to right the ship. All they see is the basic facts, the logic of: If A and B then C. Everything in a vacuum says things should be different...

The flaw is that we dont live in a vacuum. There is extraneous forces that change things. We live in the Real World not the Perfect World.

We all want to get to the point where you dont have to use qualifiers but the fact is we dont. And until such time then people have to be cognizant of the fact that while their beliefs and jokes may not be meant to offend they still might do just that. Is it fair...probably not and no one should be demonized for a joke if the intent isnt to hurt others and they apologize sincerely. But until things are equal then yeah it sucks but there will be double standards.

And this isnt just a conservative problem...the liberals need to realize that police need to be allowed to describe suspects and victims as more than just "persons". Just because the suspect is described as a Black Person doesnt mean they are being discriminated against or there is bias...it means the person they feel may have committed the crime has a dark complexion.

Oppression is one thing, and I'm sure we can all agree is an issue. Then there are those that use oppression to their political advantage out of coincidence. Then there are those special dingbats that create an environment where they are oppressed, and then use it to their political advantage.

I am definitely not trying to be dismissive.

A poster (don't recall, not looking back) said that Obama and Sam should keep those labels of "black" and "openly gay" for historic purposes. I can agree with that, if it is relevant to the story itself, as in history.

I feel that if you point out those labels in EVERY story, you are pointing out how they are "different" than the societal "norms." I would rather not have it pointed out, because it is a societal "norm" etc. You know? I may not be explaining it right, I'm much more able to express my viewpoint verbally than in text.

Example: Michael Sam became the first openly gay NFL player today.
Flipside: Michael Sam, who is openly gay, was traded today.

The latter has no business in mentioning his orientation in the trade release. Has nothing to do with it.

Finally, I'm 50/50 on Kluwe and his views. We've actually corresponded a couple times. Neither of us talk AT each other, we talk WITH each other, and that's a good thing.

So why did you feel the need to go out in t-shirts pretending that you were doing the same kind of protest, then?

All in the name of satire.

SEEMS very dismissive of others opinions and concerns that you think you can make a joke out of it. A joke so bad that the intended audience didn't get it. And it's their fault that the joke was totally lost.

And you have posted that it's BS that you can't wear "white pride" or "straight is great" shirts since the minority can. Again, pretty dismissive of their historical point of view.

I suggest stepping back and trying to stand in the other's shoes a little more. The fact that all you want to see is your side of the "equal" argument is pretty telling, as I see it.

Just because you want the mainstream media to drop attention on "what minority" does not mean you are not dismissive. You keep bringing that up as an excuse for your actions.

I didn't wear the shirt. I mentioned the event, which I thought was funny and satirical. I wasn't even part of that organization (there were some views I didn't agree with).

So basically labels are appropriate when it's used to the advantage of the person trying to create the sense of oppression of a discriminating manner. Yet, I thought the whole point was to not have said discrimination and that we're all just people.

I am 100% positive for every ounce of satire they were trying to portray there's an ounce of sincerity behind the meme. In that sense they completely lose any sense of credibility in trying to send a message.

Wrong. Look at it from a historical textbook situation. When teaching the history of the US, and these subjects come up, it is entirely appropriate when discussing presidents that Obama was the first black president.

When (if, but I'm going to assume when) we get to the 5th, 10th, etc black president, that president being black should not be mentioned as such. S/he's just "president."
                                Same goes with Michael Sam.

The first (insert whatever minority group) should get recognition as such in history lessons.
