First off, I doubt that poor people who vote Republican think they are making a deliberate economic sacrifice for the good of the country. I think they really believe the Republican economics will be better for them personally.

Secondly, it's great that I can afford to vote to cut my own throat with higher taxes for higher incomes. That's a luxury. If you're poor and you're still doing that while your kids go hungry and you can't afford to educate them, that doesn't make you a patriot, it makes you a sh-tty parent. But like I said, I doubt any of them think that is what they are doing.

I'll reiterate that the lasting legacy of those smelly Occupy Wall St little bahstids was coining the "1%er" phrase to define the uber rich that get all the benefits of Republican policies. Can someone name me the last GOP proposal that hurt the wealthy? People support policies that don't benefit them because as Kep alluded to they think these policies do actually have something in it for them. Take tax cuts for the rich. Awhile back a poll showed like half of people thought they were in the top tax bracket, even though a fraction of them are. So, when knuckledraggers talk about cutting the top tax rate, they equate that with getting a tax cut even though they'll never see it. Now when you explain the Trump-Ryan-Romney-etc-etc tax cuts are all going to the 1%, most people realize they're not in the top 1% of income earners. Consequently Trump is about to get crushed.

RCP No Toss Ups has now reached 2 weeks without a state changing. It is sitting as Clinton winning 362-176, with chalk plus all the purples and GA going blue.

Their Senate NTU is 50/50 with Mr. Kaine resolving ties, so yes hello, Ninth Circuit? Send me up a brace of wild-eyed young leftists, please. Yes, I'll hold.

To give an idea of where we are in the campaign, there are now fewer than half as many days before the election (77) as since the Scalia vacancy (159).

I don't believe that poor people who vote R do so thinking they are making an economic sacrifice for the good of the country. But I also don't think they are voting that way because they think Republicans are going to pass laws better for them economically. I think they tend to vote the way they do because social issues may be more important to them than economic ones.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

I'm playing a game here. I haven't clicked it yet so my nominations are:

white supremacist, Holocaust denier, war criminal, Fundy pedophile, and disbarred attorney

and my winner is white supremacist.

              C'mon, white supremacist!

              And the winner is...

... well, dayum. Looks like the winner is all of the above.

Almost as silly as "we should run the government like a household budget." Yeah -- talk to corporate CEOs about that.

It's adorable that you think that qualifies for the 1%.

And yet the federal government does technically accept monetary gifts from its citizens. So DC is at least willing to partially fund the government that way.

If you consider household annual income, $450k is the top 1%. If you consider wealth, it's $8M.

All I can say is Dr. Mrs. better get a raise...

50% tax per year on all wealth over $8M. Problem solved.
