    Wow.
It had a telescopic stock...its not like that makes it the size of a handgun.

It is a semi auto sporting rifle.

It's not much, but it is a slight deterrent. But then again the gun was also obtained through an illegal straw purchase, so it's nothing new.

I'd really like to see numbers in regards to crime committed with legally obtained firearms vs illegal ones. I'd wager that probably over 50% is legal, but it's not in the 90+% range. Anyone ever come across a legit stat like that?

Also if they're repeat offenders, and felons, they wouldn't pass the background check anyway. I would imagine they are mostly black market weapons, stolen or smuggled in through Mexico.

We license drivers. We require cars to be titled and registered.

Meanwhile, less and less states are requiring anything for concealed carry permits (they're going to "shall issue" instead of "may issue"). And gun registries are illegal by law.

I think that's just practice for the real thing.

Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

                      I'm only being half-facetious.

Entering a contest at a driving range doesn't mean a golf club's primary purpose is to be used for that contest rather than in an actual round of golf. Likewise, using a gun to shoot targets doesn't negate the fact that a gun's primary purpose is to kill things.

Many of the traditional Olympic events dating back to Greece can trace their roots to military drills or competitions among soldiers. You don't even have to look that far. I mean, come on, pole vault? javelin? archery? Even shotput and the hammer throws are essentially how far you can throw a stone. Let alone wrestling and boxing.

Shooting events fit in perfectly, NTTAWWT.

The gun's primary purpose is the task to which its owner puts it.
