Jordan Peterson was banned from youtube for "religious content." His lecture series is on the evolutionary meta-meaning of the old testament stories.... but his many and vocal enemies' unspoken complaint is about his ongoing feud with transgender activists in Toronto.
The ban is shocking if you've heard this guy, the lectures are fascinating. Peterson's interviews on Sam Harris and Joe Rogan's pods are the best podcasts I've heard in the past year.

We've seen this before with "Fair Use" claims. Google is compelled to investigate when they get DMCA violation complaints, or a certain threshold of TOS abuse reports - I think the account just gets auto-flagged for review, like a credit card with charges that are out of the usual pattern. Unfortunately, the burden of proof is left on the account holder/content creator. As long as he's not advocating or inciting violence in his videos, or doxxing his enemies, he should be able to get reinstated.

Unfortunately, cases like this are just fuel for right-wing media to whine about left-wing bias and intolerance of Christianity and contrary opinions.

Clearly, the homeless just don't pray hard enough.

There's nothing wrong with holding a mixed view on this. Yes, there are some folks who choose to live that way - you can find most of that type in the tent cities of southern California. At the end of the day however, the majority of them got there due to circumstances beyond their control.

                  He seems nice.

On his radio program today, extremist anti-LGBTQ pastor Kevin Swanson and his co-host Bill Jack declared that “sexualized public schools that violate God’s law with high levels of flagrancy” should be burned to the ground.

He also holds a mechanical engineering degree from Cal Poly. Why does it seem as though a lot of political and religious extremists start off as engineers? Is it because these people are born sociopaths, and the tiny amount of required engineering ethics classes only pay lip service to thinking about humans in ways that aren't purely quantifiable (volume to be moved, man-hours to be replaced, etc.)?

More people are likely to suffer and die this year and this decade from the lack of clean water than from all armed conflicts combined.

                        — Peter Woicke, World Bank

Ran across this pretty cool organization the other day:

Lifewater International is a non-profit, Christian water development organization dedicated to effectively and sustainably serving the world’s rural poor through integrated water, sanitation, and hygiene programs. In 35 years, Lifewater has served 2.3 million people in 40 countries. Lifewater trains, equips, and empowers local leaders to provide their own communities with safe water. The goal is to empower the local population with self-sustaining solutions versus temporary relief.

Lifewater has developed a missional approach to meet these urgent needs. They call this approach mWASH, which combines the best in water access, sanitation and hygiene. When combined, these elements are able to reduce the incidence of water-borne disease by at least 65%.

                                Smells like courageous moral leadership.

To avoid compensating child sex abuse victims in the U.K., the Catholic Church claims victims “consented” to being raped and sexually abused by Catholic clergy.

In a deplorable but not surprising revelation the Catholic Church in the U.K. has been caught exploiting a legal loophole to deny child victims of sexual abuse compensation for their suffering at the hands of Catholic clergy.

According to multiple reports, the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme, a government agency, has denied children raped and assaulted by Catholic clergy financial settlements because the victims are said to have “consented” to their abuse.

In the U.K. children under the age of 16 cannot legally consent to sexual activity. However, in a move favorable to the financial interests of the Catholic Church, the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme is using a different set of criteria to decide whether victims are eligible for compensation.

The criteria ignores criminal law and “considers consent as a question of fact.” The criteria, which is most favorable to the financial interests of the Catholic Church, leads to the following paradoxical claim:

A victim can consent in fact even though in law they may be deemed not to have consented.
In other words, the absurd criteria protects the financial interests of the Catholic Church by asserting that underage victims of sexual assault at the hands of Catholic clergy may be found to have consented to their assault.

And lawyers for the Catholic Church are happy to use this deplorable and despicable strategy of blaming and shaming victims in order to save the church a little bit of money.

For example, in one case, lawyers representing the Catholic Archdiocese of Southwark claimed that the rape of a 15-year-old “actually occurred in the context of a consensual relationship.”
