    I miss Art Bell.
    He was Vaudeville on terrestrial radio.
    Good alternates for that same schtick today are Caravan to Midnight (John B Wells), Ground Zero (Clyde Lewis), and The Secret Teachings (Ryan Gable). Red Eye Radio is decent but more for over the road drivers.

    The US government is not worried about EMP at all, so why should any of us: https://www.cisa.gov/emp-gmd
    And they surely don't have the three goals of:
    • Improve Risk Awareness of Electromagnetic Threats and Hazards;
    • Enhance Capabilities to Protect Critical Infrastructure;
    • Promote Effective Electromagnetic-Incident Response and Recovery Efforts.

    • New York State to introduce legislature that will ask for your social media username/platform as part of your conceal/carry background check.

      https://www.al.com/news/2022/07/peop...outputType=amp

      I have questions, like, are they just going to ask for Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook? Or are they gonna ask for others like Facebook Messenger? LinkedIn? TikTok? Snapchat? Discord? USCHO? Reddit? 4Chan? 8Chan? Pinterest? Tumblr? WhatsApp? WeChat? Telegram? Viber? Nextdoor? Pornhub? OnlyFans? Foursquare? Periscope? Truth? Gab? Tinder?

      What if I have multiple accounts? Do I need to list them all? What about accounts I posted on and were closed/banned within the background check window?

      • I have problems with that. At least on its face.

        im sure as I digest it maybe I'll change my mind. But that sounds awful close to crossing a line.

          See, this is the kind of useless gun control legislation that irks me, but is pretty much the only kind politicians seem capable devising.

          Let's say they pass that legislation. So is someone going to sit and monitor every social media account of ever person who has a conceal/carry permit? Are they just going to run programs that look for buzzwords, or certain photos? Then, what happens when they find something, or some post triggers a red flag?

          As we have seen in the past few years, people can pretty much post on social media that they are going to go shoot up a school or shoot up their workplace, and it doesn't matter. Nothing gets prevented.

          Rather than trying to decipher social media posts, why don't they just do a simple DOT style medical exam requirement, from a psychiatrist, getting the all clear to carry.
          That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

                      • That is pretty neat. More luck than skill, and kind of funny that they finally hit the target (which, by the way, was 10' x 7.6') on the 69th attempt.

                        Cuz, you know. 69.

                        Anyway, 4.4 miles is insane, and almost double the previous world record, I think (which was 2.5 miles?). The number of variables involved are staggering. Like I said, mostly this is pure luck but it's absolutely crazy to have the ability even to be in the vicinity.
                        I gotta little bit of smoke and a whole lotta wine...

                        • Yeah, it's pretty cool how the science of destroying each other improves but the science of saving the planet, or the humans, animals, and plants on it continues to falter over and over and over again.

                              Good Lord. Yeah it's a stupid experiment but it's not preventing anyone from developing the next great scientific discovery.
