    I'm all for it. No more trying to figure out what time a sporting event "actually" occurs at, no more of those pesky Pacific Islands skipping days or re-living days when the date line hops around, no more trying to figure out what time I can safely call home when I'm doing field work. One standard 24 hour clock. Sign me up.
    Huskies are very intelligent and trainable. Huskies make an excellent jogging companion, as long as it is not too hot. Grooming is minimal; bathing is normally unnecessary.

      Maybe we compromise. Have a 24-hour* "standard earth time" (just go with GMT fer chrissake) and then have local times designated by relation to sunrise and sunset. May I humbly suggest:

      Matins (midway between sunset and sunrise)
      Lauds (sunrise - 3 hours)
      Prime (sunrise)
      Terce (sunrise + 3 hours )
      Sext (midway between sunrise and sunrise)
      None (sunset - 3 hours)
      Vespers (sunset)
      Compline (sunset + 3 hours)

      Clocks can work just like GPS, working against a table of sunrises and sunsets. The interval between Compline/Matins/Lauds and Terce/Sext/None wax and wane through the year depending on latitude.

      * Of course, we should really just go all the way to sidereal time.

          There are 360o of longitude in the world and 24 hours in a day, and so having 24 time zones which each cover roughly 15o of longitude makes sense. I can see wanting every country in the same 15o of longitude to be on the same time, and also I can see countries wanting to adjust the 15o plus or minus a few degrees to keep the entire country (unless too large) in a single time zone, but one universal world-wide clock?

            Yes he did, that's Universal Time of the Church.

            Of course, some of those were suppressed in the wake of Vatican II.

                      More like you pay them to hold your money. Although at risk of completely alienating their base, it'd probably end up 0% interest.

                      Actually, under Sharia law, you are forbidden from collecting interest when loaning money.

                                Wait until negative interest rates get here like they are starting to do in Europe. Then the banks will charge you to keep "your" money with them.
