This is an article from a recent NY times. Here in Detroit a number of players have asked management to extend the netting and I think they should.

Dave Roberts is the Dodgers manager. Not sure LA should be taking on a rookie manager with their clubhouse.

I'm a little surprised not to see this story already posted here.

Former Twins legend Rod Carew in need of a heart transplant

Doctors were able to install a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) during a six-hour surgery. As Rushin explains, an LVAD "acts as a bridge until a patient can receive a heart transplant."

At 70 years old, Carew is on the borderline for a transplant, but there's still hope he'll be able to get one in the United States. For now, Carew is focused on getting healthy enough to qualify for the heart transplant waiting list.

The whole thing sounds scary, but the article is actually fairly up-lifting. You should definitely read the whole thing here. Carew went through an awful experience, but he seems to be doing much better now. It's clear that the love and support of his family has been critical as he's gone through this ordeal.

"One does not simply walk into Mordor. Its Black Gates are guarded by more than just Orcs. There is evil there that does not sleep, and the Great Eye is ever watchful. It is a barren wasteland, riddled with fire and ash and dust, the very air you breathe is a poisonous fume." Boromir

I hope for the best --- one of the great ones from my younger days.

On a happier note, hope I get this under the tree!

David Price LHP, Red Sox, 7-Years, $217 million.

An average of $31 m/yr is going to make Greinke and Cueto hold out for a lot more cash then they may have taken otherwise. Cueto isn't worth the $120 m he turned down from D-Backs.

Byung Ho Park 1B/DH, Twins, 4-Years, $12 million.

The deal includes $12 million in guaranteed salary, with Park earning $2.75 million in 2016 and 2017 and $3 million in 2018 and 2019. The club option for 2020 is worth $6.5 million with a $500,000 buyout.

Just waitin' for a big hug, a sloppy kiss, and a BFF declaration between David Ortiz (the guy Price said "thinks he's bigger than the game") and Price (the guy Ortiz says he doesn't respect any more).

                        Ugh.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson has cancer and will not attend the winter meetings. The cancer is treatable.

The 68-year-old will undergo chemotheraphy and the Mets say he will continue to work with the team, though his role may be limited at times. The type of cancer was not disclosed.

Alderson collapsed during a meeting with reporters at Citi Field following the World Series. It’s unclear if that incident was releated to his condition. He missed the GM meetings shortly thereafter for what the team called a "medical procedure," though they did not elaborate.

What do you want from a team that deliberately chose the name D'Bags?

Is the purple A the throwback, because that one's OK. The rest are from bad (the red) to hideous (the gray UO trash bags).
