Some of you are fans of the horror genre...me, not so much. But, I watched a very good "gothic ghost" movie last night from 1961: The Innocents with Deborah Kerr in the leading role. Based on Henry James's The Turn of the Screw with screenplay cowritten by Truman Capote. The young boy who plays Miles was also in Village of the D a m n ed.

Might be a good Halloween movie.
NMU Hockey Since 1976 ...there at the beginning.

Bill Crawford, LSSU radio announcer, on NMU hockey: "This is their MO right to the tee: get out shot, get out played, keep hangin' in there, just rope-a-dope it in your own zone, get it up the ice, bang it in and win the game."

It's a good treatment of a story that probably really shouldn't be made into a movie because the scariness takes flight in the reader's imagination. I'm currently reading Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House, and it, similarly, is incomparably better than the 1963 film, even though the latter is really very good (and has both Riff from West Side Story and Miss Moneypenny!)

British soldier is accidentally left behind in the wrong part of Belfast after a "home search" and riot.

Entertaining, for sure. It's more about how complicated all the relationships were between the UK, IRA, and Irish UK supporters. Worth a watch.

I watched the HBO film, The Leisure Class, last night. This is the movie that came out of the most recent Project Greenlight on HBO.

Man, I'm not sure you could make a worse movie. Completely unwatchable, and it's only 90 minutes long.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

What was that piece of trash Skit 49 or something? It'd be hard to beat that. I made it through about 3.5 minutes before I shut it off. And ALL the stars were in that one...

Oddly enough, my local library will be screening this Friday night. I saw the messageboard out front and thought, nah, it can''t be the same film. But sure enough.........

Do I pass up Maine at BC to go see this instead? Probably will be more entertaining.

I have Inside Out coming to me from Amazon. Everything I've heard about it is positive...

Used to great effect in V for Vendetta, it's The Fifth of November.

                          Remember, remember!
                          The fifth of November,
                          The Gunpowder treason and plot;
                          I know of no reason
                          Why the Gunpowder treason
                          Should ever be forgot!
                          Guy Fawkes and his companions
                          Did the scheme contrive,
To blow the King and Parliament
                          All up alive.
                          Threescore barrels, laid below,
                          To prove old England's overthrow.
But, by God's providence, him they catch,
With a dark lantern, lighting a match!
                          A stick and a stake
                          For King James's sake!
If you won't give me one,
                          I'll take two,
                          The better for me,
                          And the worse for you.
A rope, a rope, to hang the Pope,
A penn'orth of cheese to choke him,
A pint of beer to wash it down,
And a jolly good fire to burn him.
Holloa, boys! holloa, boys! make the bells ring!
Holloa, boys! holloa boys! God save the King!
                          Hip, hip, hooor-r-r-ray!
"The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command." George Orwell, 1984

"One does not simply walk into Mordor. Its Black Gates are guarded by more than just Orcs. There is evil there that does not sleep, and the Great Eye is ever watchful. It is a barren wasteland, riddled with fire and ash and dust, the very air you breathe is a poisonous fume." Boromir

Executive Officer Martin T. 'Marty' Pascal: Jesus, Buckman! This stuff's been on the Stingray since Korea! This can expired in 1966!
