For me plenty of the 60's holdovers were still viable plus some shining lights included Floyd, The Who, Fleetwood Mac, CSN, The Dead, Parliament Funkadelic, Elton John, KISS, Aerosmith, The Clash, Allman Brothers, Zeppelin, New York Dolls, Black Sabbath, America, Jeff Beck, George Harrison, John Lennon, Velvet Undergound...

...oops. For some reason, I thought he did it much earlier in the decade. Maybe because I'd blocked out my recollection of his role & solos being marginalized after the first couple albums.

The new Savages lp is great! I'm still waiting for Bowie's Blackstar to arrive in the local shop. They sold-out very quickly there.

I'm bummed on Neil Peart's retirement and of course Bowie...

I''be also been listening to NIN quite a bit. I love the broken ep and it holds up very well imo

I'm eager for the new radiohead and new soundgarden stuff.

Oh, new band for you guys: The Rutabega from south bend. They're like all the best elements or Sun Kill Moon with a dash of mates of state or even REM thrown in.

So tomorrow is the birthday of Alarm guitarist Dave Sharp. One of my favorite bands from my years just out of college, I saw them three times in the period from around 1984-86, and every time they were just terrific. This live broadcast from UCLA in 1986 was one of the first global satellite concert broadcasts. And poking around tonight, I see that later this year, there will be a remastered hi-def dvd release of this, to coincide with its 30th anniversary. Which I will so be getting.

Pearl Jam is playing during our vacation at the Frozen Four this year. Just spent about an hour of stress trying to get decent tickets through Ticketmaster. So frustrating. But we'll be there, even if we'll need a telescope to see the band.

                  David Bowie - Blackstar

Can't shake this album. Not listening to it daily or anything, but keep coming back to it.

Just read Neil McCormick's review of it for the Telegraph:

                  http://www.telegraph.co.uk/music/wha...extraordinary/

It was published the day before Bowie's death and it's pretty amazing to read with the benefit of hindsight.

And I agree with Neil, it really doesn't fit anywhere within his back catalogue.

Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

Was at a friend's house on Friday and he's a HUGE Rush fan and we got to talking and he popped in the dvd from the R40 show.

I have regret that I didn't make getting to one of those shows a priority.

Listened to a couple of Rush shows on Saturday in the den, much to the wife's chagrin.

                                Seriously... Rush = Woman Repellant

And if you're not careful, it can be accelerant as in she might just kill you.
