Yeah I'm with dxm in calling BS on this. My total out of pocket premium isn't even 10K in total. Granted I get insurance through work, but still. Unless you didn't have insurance previously and now you do, that's a bit much.

What part of 37% don't you get? And that was just last year.

      http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/04/us...2016.html?_r=0

Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans — market leaders in many states — are seeking rate increases that average 23 percent in Illinois, 25 percent in North Carolina, 31 percent in Oklahoma, 36 percent in Tennessee and 54 percent in Minnesota, according to documents posted online by the federal government and state insurance commissioners and interviews with insurance executives.
      Call BS all you want.

Using this calculator, plugging in my personal information, and assuming our three kids were still under the age of 21 (they're not), my "average" anticipated annual premium is about $17,000.

That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

Scoobs, what they request and what they are granted are two different things.

Why can't you get insurance through your employer?

If you still had 3 kids under 21, you and your spouse would also be some number of years younger.

Just saying, if you play with the scenario in an effort to make your premium higher, it's not shocking that your premium would be higher.

I put in 35 as the age of me and my spouse, in my example.

In contrast, the Federal Employees Health Benefits is a great deal.

As a retiree, I'm paying close to $400/mo for Aetna family plan (Uncle Sam picks up a portion). Next open season my wife and I will get single plans saving us $50/mo total and lowering our catastrophic from $10K to $5K each.

Why can't Uncle Sam do the same thing for non Feds?

Because socialism, and I'm only half kidding.

You're right, it could. But then you go and vote for the party that will never let it happen.

Of course Minnesota saw health care premium increases in 2015.

The state had the cheapest health care premiums - #1 - in the country in 2014. http://khn.org/news/10-least-expensi...markets-in-us/ And Minnesota has the best quality of health care in the country every year. In years past, state insurance companies mispriced their services due to the exchange expecting hot competition. And because big insurance companies can't compare on price with smaller insurance companies like UCare...they're withdrawing from the exchange where people can shop side by side.

(In 2014) The lowest monthly silver premium in the country is offered in the Minneapolis-St. Paul region, where a 40-year-old will pay $154 a month for a PreferredOne plan. Just across the Wisconsin border, that same level plan — but with a different insurer and other doctors and hospitals — costs nearly three times as much.

Do you shop for insurance on MNSure every year? I do and my insurance premiums went down last year.
