    You are correct. From the UNC website:

    Aug. 30, 1986: defeated UMass, 4-0, in the 1986 season opener, first of an NCAA record 103 games without a loss.
    According to a SI report after Penn State beat Penn on Dec. 4:

    The streak is the second-longest streak in Division I team sports behind only the 137 straight match wins by the Miami men's tennis program. Penn State last loss in September 2007 to Stanford.

    I used to play and coach and have watched a lot of high end VB and that may have been the best yet. Sorry I tuned in as late as I did. Two amazing teams playing an amazing match.

    ESPN was showing a count-up of all the streaks throughout the season, but I think it was just D1. The largest they showed was 154 by Miami, FL tennis in the early fifties.

    Trinity men's squash has the best in the history of college varsity athletics, 202 the last count I could find, but squash is only an NCAA sport for women, not men.

    Wikipedia says Penn State's 102 is second to:

    College Football (Women's)

    169 games—1986-1990 North Carolina

    * Streak started September 30, 1986
    * Streak ended September 17, 1990

    Major sports streak would be Penn State, followed by UCLA's 88 game steak under Coach Wooden.

    Outstanding game.

    That was one of the better sporting events I've watched...glad I flipped the channel at the right time.

    Middlebury won 5 straight D-III hockey titles == Bemidji won 4 straight in D-II.

    Cael Sanderson was something like 150-0 in his four years of wrestling at Iowa State.
