  • Political Limericks

Does the petty snarkfilled dialog from some of the political threads leave you with ennui?

Perhaps it's time to lighten up / liven up the political sniping!

I stole this idea from James Taranto at the Wall St. Journal.

He held a limerick contest for a politician with one of the most euphonious names ever, Alison Lundergan Grimes (though I suppose it could work as well with Debbie Wasserman-Schultz).

    Ready, fire, aim!
"Hope is a good thing; maybe the best of things."

"Beer is a sign that God loves us and wants us to be happy." -- Benjamin Franklin

"Being Irish, he had an abiding sense of tragedy, which sustained him through temporary periods of joy." -- W. B. Yeats

"People generally are most impatient with those flaws in others about which they are most ashamed of in themselves." - folk wisdom

This one did not win Taranto's limerick contest, though I liked it better than the winning entry.

    Alison Lundergan Grimes
Is out of touch with the times.
    If the people are lucky,
    She'll lose in Kentucky
One less vote to support Congress' crimes.

There once was a Gov, name of Perry,
Whom some on the Left found too scary.
So they trumped up a charge,
      Didn't stick, he's at large,
but it worked, now the voters are wary.

There once was a poser named Fish
        "An Independent!" he did insist.
        His posts from the right
        showed a sphincter so tight.
"Go away," was our only true wish.

If you don't change the world today, how can it be any better tomorrow?

You're right, though - this is fun.

There once was a poster named joe
          who pretended never to know,
          but the questions he asked
          were transparent as glass:
          supposition and innuen-do.

There are those who despise Harry Reid.
"No Senate votes" prompts many a screed.
            Perhaps this November
We'll have a vote to remember.
After which Reid will be forced to concede.

To show that it's all in good fun, I'll do myself (yes, I know you wish!):

There once was a poster named Lynah
whose postings could not have been fin-ah.
              His charm and his grace
              really lit up the place.
His wit? Worth all of the tea - in China.

and back to the topic at hand:

                Remembrer that woman, Lewinsky?
Who once had some goo on her chin-sky?
                It's twenty-fourteen
                Still makin' a scene.
Said Hill, "God, no - not that buttinsky!"

In my youth I fancied the left,
Bach then, our ideas had heft!
                  Now, their totalitarian bent
                  I find so abhorrent
That now I am forlorn and bereft.

In my youth I fell for right,
                    Brainwashed and socially uptight
                    Then I left Catholic school,
                    And realized I'd been fooled,
Now I can't make up my mind most nights

Beware of the Senator named Schumer:
Senate Prez is his dream, goes the rumor.
Then he'll flood us with pork
for the "sake of New York,"
and our debt will explode like a tumor!

I don't agree with your stance, but the rhyme of "bent" with "abhorrent" is excellent.
