    Blaxploitation greatness.

I finally watched "Black Dynamite" and if you know a thing or twelve about some of the awesomely over the top blaxploitation pictures of the 70s it's incredible, amazing and hilarious. I can't recommend this movie enough. That said, if you've never seen a blaxploitation movie it comes off like an over-the-top spoof of the genre and works like the black man's version of "Anchorman."

Also, I found this for sale on Amazon and almost passed out. The "Urban Action Collection" is a nice PC way of saying "Blaxploitation Movie Pack That Will Blow Your Balls Off With How Awesome It Is."

Two of the movies in this pack make it worth the cheap purchase as Black Belt Jones and Three The Hard Way are phenomenal. Hot Potato kind of sucks and has a character in it you instantly want to kill yourself because he sucks so much. Three The Hard Way features Fred Williamson, Jim Brown (yes, that Jim Brown) and Jim Kelly (no, not that Jim Kelly).

Of course, the best part of movies like this are the soundtracks with completely over the top action. Feast your eyes on the opening sequence of Black Belt Jones.

It's tamer than the book. The descriptions given by the author of the crimes at the beginning of the book, Kubrick tamed down those scenes smartly.

The book is also almost unreadable as it is written in the Russian-English pigeon street language. All I remember is droogies is buddies, yarbles are balls, and Horrorshow is good.

Went to see Avatar on Tuesday in IMAX 3-D. Agree with criticisms on the story (was a Disney version of Pocahantas) - but the scenery was gorgeous. I really enjoyed it.

So The Crazies is out. I kind of want to see it. Anyone seen it already and have an opinion?

Also finally starting to see commericals for A Nightmare on Elm Street, which I will see regardless of others opinions.

I'm about to flip a coin to choose either "Rashomon" or "Manhattan Melodrama." Probably will see the other one tomorrow.

And the winner is......"Manhattan Melodrama." It got a Best Writing Oscar, and it does have Clark Gable, so there's two plusses. And the story does sound interesting.
Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

Well, I have to say, despite my higher than normal expectations, Manhattan Melodrama was *ing fantastic. The story really had a depth to it that I didn't expect. Gable was awesome, but I think William Powell really shined in the movie, really gave it its meat.

I very highly recommend this movie for viewing, it's more than worth it.

I may have enjoyed it more if I had not read the book beforehand. I thought DiCaprio was pretty good, despite his total inability to speak with an accent.
Just went and saw it tonight. I liked it, and yeah DiCaprio's half-a55ed Boston accent was amusing. I will say that the plot twist towards the end didn't fully sink in for me until the final scene. Probably because I thought about it too much.

Oh, and silly me. There were a couple actions shots of hockey in Manhattan Melodrama! I was shocked, to say the least.

It may have been pre-code. There are scenes in Tarzan that will make your head spin.

Edit: oh, hockey. Never mind. I thought you meant action shots.

                          Nice reference.

Today I was perusing this book I have, Life Magazine's "Century Of Change: America In Pictures 1900-2000" and I happened to see a poster/pic listing the code, and the photo accompanying it had all the things that the code prohibited. Given that the code was 1934 (I think) (same as when this movie came out), I thought it was kinda funny.

Is nudity the #1 criteria on the Mookie movie rating scale?
