Thanks Scoobs - I'll take much of that under consideration. I probably won't run the Hitchcock gauntlet but I will surely add several of those to my queue over time. One of the positives of Netflix has been the recommendations I receive based upon all the movies I've rated. I've watched dozens of foreign films the past year and continue to hit on other gems, and now with a recent emphasis on adding classics to my queue I rarely see a new Hollywood release.

Of course I'm a fan of the Vikings. A sick and demented Masochist of a fan, but a fan none the less.

Saw Edge of Darkness last night, and thought it was solid.

          Secretary:

Wow. Um.....hooo-boy. It's uh, hm. I really don't know where to begin, actually. Creepy, disturbing, darkly funny, a little twisted.......very good movie. James Spader and Maggie Gyllenhaal were great choices, as both were solid in their roles.

If I were to put it into "marketing-speak" I would say that it's "a non-traditional love story." I guess that's the best way to put it. It's definitely not for everyone, as in, if you have reservations about alternative sorts of lifestyles, this movie might really get to you. The first 3/4 toys with the boundaries of what is considered normal, and the last 1/4 really pushes it. We're not talking chains/whips/chips/dips wax on the nipples sort of thing, but still......

It's definitely not a light movie. This one is undivided attention, to really take it in, and even then, it's one to mull over. I'd say it's worth seeing.
Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

so continuing to use up my credits at my going out of business rental place:

                      Zombieland:
Great. bf and I both enjoyed it, and the boy may end up buying it. Shaun of the Dead is one of his favorite movies, so this fits his comedy/horror genre very well.

                      Sunshine Cleaning:
I could have easily passed on that movie. Wasted an hour and a half of my time. Limited parts were amusing. I still like Amy Adams despite her choice to take that role.

We watched "A Prairie Home Companion" this weekend. It was the first time I had seen it, and I really enjoyed it. Great cast, and as quirky as the actual radio show.

back to Book of Eli.....it was good but the religious message annoyed me. I guess I didn't get that thats what it was about from previews or the synopsis. The bible saves the world plot was annoying to me.

I picked it on a whim when I got to the theater, so I had no idea what it might be about going in.

To be honest, I thought it did show the two sides of the Bible/religion - how the fire & brimstone parts can be used to control desperate people/shun outsiders/take power, as opposed to some other parts of the Bible just being advice for how to live a decent life and not be seen as a complete tool (which is how I tend to view it).

Beyond the religious parts though, the plot was a tad predictable with all the street violence, extremely attractive damsel in distress, etc. I could've waited for video, but I didn't feel like I completely wasted two hours of my life either.

Saw No Country for Old Men this afternoon. The killer definitely deserved the Best Acting Oscar, though I can't believe he was given supporting rather than leading.

Not sure it deserved best picture, though, I would've gone with Juno or Atonement over it (haven't seen There Will Be Blood yet). It was good, but something seemed kind of off, of course, it was a Cohen Bros. movie...

I give it a 7/10. Great acting, the plot definitely picked up about halfway through, but the begining and ending both were kinda blah.

That is how I felt about it to. There Will Be Blood is very slow and if anyone other than Daniel Day Lewis had been in it it would have blown goats (instead of drinking your milkshake!!) so I wouldn't say it was Best Picture either.
