ahh the advantages of working quirky hours... caught Avatar in Imax and dug it (also dug having plenty of space, and my choice of seats )

It was extremely entertaining, and definitely one for the big screen

This reeks of the rumors of Slap Shot 2, Dumb And Dumberer, The Mask 2, Grease 2, and Police Academy 2-6. Just sayin'.
Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

No it doesn't...not even a little bit, not even in the same neighborhood. Most of those movies (minus Police Academy 2-6 and I guess Slap Shot 2 since it has the Hansens) brought back the original star and the director.

It would be closer to Rocky Balboa though it will be better.

Plus Police Academy 3 and 4 were AWESOME!

From the success of Avatar and a few other wide releases, it sounds like more movies are going to be released in IMax. There's even a standard movie theater that was built only a couple years ago, just 7 or 8 miles from me, that has an IMax screen in it - I had never heard of that before.

The report I heard said that the final two Harry Potter movies would be on IMax, and they mentioned a couple others, too.

The 6th HP movie was released in IMax as well, but was released several weeks after the original release... Avatar was the 2nd IMax movie I'd seen with Dark Knight being the first.. I am definitely glad I caught both of those.

Yeah, to be even competive in the future, I bet any decent first run theater is going to have to have at least one IMAX screen there to anchor business and the local movie going public to that theater.

Saw From Paris with Love last night. It was quite entertaining. We were late to the screening so we had to sit in the front row on the far right side, which took away some of the fun. A lot of the action scenes were quick-cut close view, which doesn't bode well for those sitting 10 feet away from the screen. Nonetheless, the movie was good. Travolta basically plays the same crazy guy as he did in Pelham 123 but this time he's not a villain, and I thought he was much better this time around. Jonathan Myers is a marginal actor at best. Its always disappointing when one of the two main actors in a movie doesn't sell his character while the other one does so fantastically. That was the case here.
However, if you're an action movie fan, this is worth your time. Lots of good action, lots of humor mixed-in, and a good time overall.
I'll be curious to see what people think of the climax at the end. I thought it was very anti-climactic, but didn't ruin the movie for me as is the case in so many other flicks.

And why would that be? There have been a number of sequels that have been as good or better than the original. How do you know already?

                        The Philadelphia Story (1940)

Hadn't watched an old fillm for a while. Hadn't seen this one yet and saw it was on TCM. Set the DVR. Watched it last night since everything was repeats last night. Doesn't get much better than Katharine Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart, and Carey Grant. I thought the supporting role by Ruth Hussey was very good as well. Looked it and sure as anything she had a best supporting actress nomination for the role and Jimmy Stewart had won for his. I'd say this is my favorite of Hepburn's roles I've seen so far.

The original Taking of Pelham One Two Three. I was flipping through movies and came across this; I saw Robert Shaw played the main villain, so I just had to watch it, and I was not disappointed. I haven't seen the new version, but watching this makes me wonder why it needed to be remade. It was already a very good movie.

It needed to be remade to make gobs of money. The remake's not bad, but it's basic, empty product. The dinginess of the original is all gone.

Just beware, there's IMax and then there's IMax. One theater here in Omaha (actually Counciltucky, but same metro area) has an "IMax" theatre, but it's not the gigantic 5-story high screen most people think of when they think IMax. The screen is maybe 1.5-2x's the size of a normal one, and the sound quality's somewhat better, but not twice the price of a movie ticket better. Saw the Star Trek reboot there, won't go back again.

It's been what, 20 years since the original? And this isn't a remake, it's a sequel? Just strikes me as odd, and a cashgrab, which usually doesn't turn out well.

I'd love to be wrong, as the first one was great. I just get that funny feeling that it'll be terrible.
