Avatar still raked in $34 million this week in it's SIXTH week of being out.
Titanic...you've had a good run but you're going down
The IMax showings are really boosting this movie and putting it over the top.
They are still selling out from what my friend told me who works at the Albany IMax theatre.
I was at a sold out showing this weekend in Ann Arbor.
bueller: Why is the sunset good? Why are boobs good? Why does Positrack work? Why does Ferris lose on the road and play dead at home?
It just happens.
nmupiccdiva: I'm sorry I missed you this weekend! I thought I saw you at the football game, but I didn't want to go up to a complete stranger and ask "are you Monster?" and have it not be you!
Anyone else really looking forward to Shutter Island?
I think it looks great.
I was about a year ago when I first saw the trailers they are still showing now
I thought Closer was boring and stupid...it didnt help that Horseface was in it
The more people that keep seeing Avatar, the more who will get Post Avatar Depression and let Darwin take affect

I still wanna see it. It looks *ed up, in a non-slasher non-cheap pay-off sorta way.
Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.
Tastes like a warm summer day. -Raylan Givens

I will see it, but my excitement died about 6 months ago.

Word. It's become a joke in our local theater -- as soon as the trailer comes on (as it inevitably does, no matter what the movie genre is), a third of the audience starts laughing.

This article makes a point I've always been confused about. One ticket now may cost 2-3 times as much as a ticket in the past, so why do we measure by the money made rather than number of tickets sold? Is it the studios trying to make new movies in theaters seem more appealing because they're "more successful" than older movies or is the movie industry just stupid?

Checked out Daybreakers last night, pretty standard vampire stuff, but I thought it had some nice touches, and an appropriate level of ultra violence when it was required. Certainly worth a rental.

Because they've always measured it by total gross? Because the goal is to make money? Because it's a bigger number than tickets sold? So people don't have to multiply based on average ticket price to determine how much money a movie has made?
In regard to Shutter Island: I'm sure this will come as a shock to everyone, but the DiCaprio movie I am most looking forward to this year is Inception.

I'm fine with using it to compare movies currently in theaters. My point is that it's completely misleading when used to compare current movies to older movies.

Adjusted for inflation, Gone With the Wind and Star Wars are still 1 and 2, at least domestically (have never seen worldwide inflation adjusted numbers). The inflation adjusted numbers are readily available with a quick google search. Newspapers just never report that.
