Will Avatar catch Transformers for top (box office) movie of 2009?

Transformers is now 8th all time with $402 million, narrowly missing out knocking off Spiderman.

Avatar currently sits at $212 million but has been getting consistent totals throughout the holidays instead of the normal large drop off after the opening week.

I think Avatar is benefiting from being one of the only if not the only movie out right now in major theatres worth spending the money on.

        The Hangover:

A much better version of "Dude, Where's My Car?"

It was decent. I would think this movie falls under the "have a few with a group of friends, and talk back to the screen" type of movie.

It's definitely not a HOF movie by any means, but it is funny and worth watching. And I think the majority of us have been in that sort of basic situation. Not to the movie's degree, but what my friends and I call "pocket dollars," where each of your pockets has a couple ones/other bills and/or receipts, and that pieces together the previous night.

The Asian guy? Awesome. Mike Tyson? Funny, but overblown cameo hype. And I haven't checked it out yet, but is the main right-hand man (the teacher) the guy from Wedding Crashers? He was great.
Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

Watching that movie and reading I hope They Serve Beer In Hell makes me think that we should put all of our combined road trip stories in writing until we have enough good ones to make some coin off of it.

            Possibly.

I'd wait a few more years, or at least until after the 2011 F4.

Yeah he is... I never made that connection until you mentioned it. He was great in the Hangover, and he was really good as the db boyfriend in Wedding Crasher. I personally loved the Hangover, and loved it more when we all watched it in a group on New Years Eve, its a fun movie to watch with a group of people, definitely...

Thinking about checking out a movie before work tonight, probably either Sherlock Holmes or Up in the Air, depending on what works best with my schedule...

Finally got around to Ingluorious Basterds this weekend too; excellent. (Though I thought the way they worked in Sam Jackson was kinda forced.)

It's amazing; it's also in real danger of being too smart for the demographic. It's pitched miles above the average network audience. No idea how they even sold it originally.

It's not quite Arrested Development but I see your point. Amazingly enough Hollywood has managed to do that twice this season, the other one being Modern Family.

Saw a preview for Book of Eli. Looks decent but Denzel seems to have gone the route of Pacino when it comes to the lack of variety in his roles. Sad really.

And apparently the character type he plays in The Hangover is the same as in Role Models, which I watched tonight. A little disappointed in that (his role).

Anyway, Role Models was decent. Better than I thought it would be. The amount of LAIRE (or LARP, I guess) kind of surprised me. It got a little stale after a while.

However, decent telling of the story (even though it was a standard cliched story/ending), and some good humor. Worth seeing once. Don't expect any standard deviations from typecasting involving Paul Rudd/Sean William Scott. You won't get any, and somehow that still works.

Caught Up in the Air yesterday and enjoyed it. It was well put together. Didn't blow me away, but it was a solid story.

Watched Inglourious Basterds last night with my parents. I really enjoyed it and I think it's a testament to how much Tarantino has matured as a filmmaker.

I was surprised (and pleased) to see Samm Levine and Eli Roth. I didn't mind the insertion of Samuel L. and Harvey Keitel (in fact, I may have thrown my hands up in the air and shouted, "HARVEY KEITEL" when I heard his voice).

If the actor who played the German Col. Hans Landa isn't nominated for an Oscar, I'll think even less of the Academy. (not that I think particularly highly of them now)

                                Watching Julie & Julia now.
