I'm guessing Turkish peace talks with Kurdish rebels in Turkey are pretty much dead after media reports that Turkish warplanes are hitting PKK rebel targets in Turkey. Not a good idea to bomb the Kurds if you want them to stay at the table with you to talk peace.

      http://abcnews.go.com/International/...rgets-26176014

Turkey sitting on its hands on Kobane while watching ISIS pummel the Kurds there has shades of Stalin allowing the Nazis to put down the Warsaw uprising, before the Russians then came in and swept out the Germans.

You know you're having a bad day/week/month when even one of the most loyal media lapdogs is turning on you.

It’s not too soon to state the obvious: At this point, the war against the Islamic State can be seen only as failing.

        snip

Intervention by the world’s mightiest military force has produced no shock and no awe. To be sure, U.S. and coalition airstrikes are inflicting some damage on Islamic State troops and equipment. But the bombing has done virtually nothing to alter the strategic balance of power — or to boost the fortunes of our ostensible allies on the ground, the “moderate” Syrian rebels and the hapless Iraqi military.

Why, then, are we fighting this war?

The Post is only saying what all of us are saying. War in the Middle East is stupid, it was stupid when Bush did it and it is stupid now that Obama is doing it. The fact that conservatives have a massive boner to put boots on the ground there boggles my mind. The fact that Obama fell for the same trap Dubya did proves he is just as prone to fall for the hyperbole and bloodlust as anyone else which is sad.

Most of the Middle East is in Asia, and you know what they say about getting involved in land wars in Asia.

Sound silke our airstrikes are giving a little breathing room to the defenders of Kobane, at least for now.

I consider myself a conservative, and I have no interest in doing a **** thing over there. But then, I'm a normal guy, typing on a computer in a hockey message board, not someone that actually has the power to make a decision.

Inherent Resolve? That sure rolls off the tongue.

Military operations always sound like high school jocks' names for their metal bands.

I leave the reasons for this similarity as an exercise for the reader.

Resolve isn't a bad word for naming a military operation, but inherent? That's where this one loses me.

Maybe someone could create a military operation name generator, like there's a Shakespearean insult generator online.
