      Of course, Brodeur is the all-time leader in goals by goalies, but he's a Devil and should be despised as such.
      It's been a long time, but didn't Billy Smith have a reputation for being a dirty player? That's my recollection from long ago.

        As a franchise-life-long Islanders fan, the answer is indisputably yes. As "dirty" as a goalie can be, that is. If you got near his crease he'd be physical and wasn't above using his stick. Of course that also led him to being a magnet for cementheads on opposing teams, and this was all against the backdrop of a much tougher NHL, so he both gave and received more abuse than most goalies.

          Agreed. I also grew up an Islanders fan, slightly at the tail end of Smith's heyday, but he was always a lot of fun to watch. He didn't take **** from anyone.
