Apparently it wasn't a stroke. Per CBC's Twitter account:

Test shows #GordieHowe didn't suffer a new stroke, says son Murray Howe. It was likely dehydration with fatigue. May be discharged tomorrow.

Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

It is with a great deal of sadness that the Canadiens organization learned tonight the passing of Jean Béliveau. He was 83 years old.

Absolutely. Another sad day for hockey.

To the rest of the world, he was known as Jean Beliveau. To me, he was always Mr. Beliveau. The legend who, for decades after he retired in 1971, still had his number listed in the Montreal area public phone directory.

A few years ago, when his answering machine came on while I was attempting to reach him, I simply hung up. Eight hours later, the long-distance ring sounded at my Toronto home.

“Hello, this is Jean Beliveau,” the voice on the other end said. “I saw someone from this number attempted to contact me. How can I help you?”

If that’s not the definition of a gentleman, what is?

Funny, my father says the same thing. He also says that his second favorite is Trottier, and was a big fan of Peter Stastny.

Related: one of my all-time favorite goalies is Ron Hextall, despite the fact I hate that franchise almost as much as I hate WI.

My father had no ill-will towards the Nordiques, but isn't particularly fond of the Isles, obviously.
