So the Red Sox essentially traded Jon Lester and two prospects to Detroit for Rick Porcello and a pitching prospect. What a bargain!

Porcello is younger (meaning less risk of injury), cheaper, and almost as good.

Only half a season of Jon Lester though.

Ben just said he would have been happy to trade Lester for Porcello straight up in July.

Dry that one out and you can fertilize the lawn. Check out #smearcampaign on twitter for a taste of what is to come.

I don't know who Ben is. With the Sox as far out of it as they were in July, I might make that trade too.

                Ben Cherington, Red Sox GM.

He said he was happy with the rotation of Porcillo, Masterton, Buchholz, Miley Cyrus, Joe Kelly and Ryan Dempster. Who is the ace?

                    I thought Dumpster retired?

A solid cost controlled pitcher still in arbitration for half a year of an ace. For a team that wasn't anywhere close to contending.

IDK, I don't think it's as bad as you're implying. Lester is definitely better and I get that the Red Sox can spend more than most teams, but I can see why he would say that from a contract standpoint.

And that's if you buy that, going forward, Lester is the top-tier pitcher he was in his contract year, and not the good-but-not-great pitcher he was in 2012 and 2013.

Exactly. It'd be a sell high move.

He was pretty decent in Game 5 of the 2013 World Series.
