Elsewhere, the Cosmos signed Raul, which makes sense because he last played at a high level on a soccer field around the same time the Cosmos did.

Ah Sporting Kansas City, MLS Cup Champs to losing to the Red Bulls in hilarious fashion.

I think the Cosmos themselves are, at this point, a merchandising operation in the guise of a soccer team, and the fans who've latched onto them are delusional if they think the team has anything in common, save a name, with the team that once fielded players like Pele, Beckenbauer and Chinaglia. I don't hate them, even in the colloquial sports fan sense in which I "hate" Harvard, the Dallas Cowboys, or DC United. I just think they're ludicrous.

That was some fantastic marking on the winning goal by Matt Besler, whose game could not be improved by playing in a stronger league, no sir.

Actually, Besler was hung out to dry by his goalie not going for the ball. Besler made the right move to cover the goal line in case of a wacky deflection but then the goalie doesn't make a move for the ball and then he's in scramble mode.

I get the sentiment here, but is some schmuck trying to capitalize on the Cosmos name really all that different than if NYCFC had instead just taken up the name and logo to "honor" the original team? Is it any more ridiculous than when any other team names itself after a predecessor (Milwaukee Brewers, Texas Rangers, Winnipeg Jets and Ottawa Senators all come to mind)?
If you want to be a BADGER, just come along with me

                    BRING BACK PAT RICHTER!!!

At his graduation ceremony from the U of Minnesota, my cousin got a keychain. When asked what UW gave her for graduation, my sister said, "A degree from a University that matters."

Canned music is a pathetic waste of your time.

Yes, it's more ridiculous, because those teams all play in the same top-tier leagues as their namesakes. The current Cosmos are a second-tier team that exists to sell shirts.

I think it's that they're trying to build themselves up as something more than what they are, and it that process are *in up the US Soccer system.
