      @SlavaMalamud: Meanwhile, RUS's soccer league (which, by FIFA laws, must pay its foreigners in Euros and USD) is facing mass fire sales by ALL teams.

            That is still narrowminded. He chose Italy because he grew up idolizing the italian team. If he had been a little younger (say 5 years) during the 2002 run, he likely chooses USA because he sees a path to success and has american players to idolize. In the end, he may have been a lost cause no matter what with his italian upbringing.

                  Still doesn't mean I don't experience schadenfruede when thinking about his situation. Similar to how I feel about my neighbor who still roots for Mexico first even though he's lived here most of his life. I may understand it, but I'm still going to give them crap for it.

                          Players not getting paid has been a problem for a few years in Europe now.

                          Seattle was able to sign Obafemi Martins because he hadn't been paid by his Spanish club in months.
