And speaking of SKC, I liked the * talking about them coming after Seattle in the standings. Good job guys, it's July, you're only 3 points back and Seattle has two games in hand. Now just shut up and wait until we * it away in September like usual.

Can someone explain to me why Houston needed to trade for Toronto's allocation spot to sign DeMarcus Beasley to a designated player contract when Toronto (Bradley) and Seattle (Dempsey) didn't?

          Because Calvinball.

IIRC the Bradley and Dempsey deals were partially financed by the league itself so, because they were special cases, they didn't go through the allocation process.

I don't get the reference? And I don't get why it matters? If the league is helping pay for Dempsey and Bradley, why do they get to decide who benefits from that extra money instead of letting it fall to the allocation system?

So anyone else going to any of these matches? http://internationalchampionscup.com/

Hope it's good football, but we are going to the game in Ann Arbor next weekend. Very much hoping that the change with ManU is similar to Mexco's...

But as long as it's fun.

Calvinball? From Calvin and Hobbes? You just make up rules as you go along.

Honestly it's a good question, AFAIK it's dependent on who does the bulk of the negotiating for the player. In the case of Dempsey and Bradley Seattle and Toronto did the work so they didn't go through allocation? I don't know, it's very confusing and there's not a clear explanation. MLS playing Calvinball, they just make it up as they go along.

I'm considering the Manchester City vs Olympiakos game in Minneapolis.

Ah, yeah...sorry missed that. It sounds like some of it comes down to the fact that Beasley is a DP but he won't be getting millions. It still seems like a distinction without a difference.

Well, if anything, the Timbers Army will be riled up by this. So that's good.

Can you imagine if the Imax theater at the Boston Museum of Science showed soccer games on that screen?

unfortunately, the nearest so far are Framingham and Bellingham in Massachusetts.

Those games are meaningless. I don't take any stock in them because RBNY is in mid-season form while Arsenal is experimenting with a new lineup.
