  • Re: World Soccer XXV - the run up to the World Cup

I guess the question is does this thread have spoilers or should we create a separate thread that allows spoilers or a separate thread that doesn't allow spoilers?

I would say do the same thing we did for the Olympics. A thread to talk about the World Cup without spoilers (or at least a primetime/24-hour rule). I know we talked about non-specific news items in that thread as well (namely the the horrible conditions and general f*kery that was going on with the games).

Then there was the spoiler thread where results and live discussions about the games on currently.

        Thoughts?

This is sort of a strange one because it's in the same time zone unlike London and Sochi, and I don't remember what we did with Vancouver.

I think it might be best to create a seperate WC thread anyway, since this one is just titled "run up to the World Cup."

But there are still games that start before lunch time here...so while there are plenty of games that will happen at or near the end of the work day, there is still plenty of action while most of us are at work. Unless I can get away with streaming at the office, I won't be watching much live beside the late game and the US games...

True, but the US-Germany game is one where it's going to be at what? 1 PM or 2 PM on a weekday?

There is another thread for the WC. I assume that's the spoiler thread and this is more of a general non-spoiler thread? ...or?

                  • Re: World Soccer XXV - the run up to the World Cup

My feeling is that the burden should always be on the people who are trying to avoid spoilers (I am often one). If you want a spoiler-free thread, then you'd better create one and state that requirement explicitly and prominently in the main title. Any expectation that every other poster would have read a particular post requesting that there henceforth be no spoilers in this or that thread would be sorely misplaced, IMHO.
If you don't change the world today, how can it be any better tomorrow?

I would say use the other thread to discuss games and results from the World Cup and leave this thread for club teams. That means no spoilers in this thread.
