What's actually funny is that people thought The Hobbit novel was good. Those of us who know better had sufficiently lower expectations for a kiddie story. Sort of like all the Harry Potter & The Herp of Derp books/movies.

No doubt, but I still held out some hope coz I'm ever the optimist.

Either way, there was never any question that I'd be making my donation to Sir Peter. As I said, I was going to see it through.

Just awful on so many levels. It's actually laughable at this point.

    See it, it's great.

I was very worried Disney would not be up to the challenge, but they were. It's not dumbed down much, and the cast was good.

    Some spoilers:

If Pine retires from Cap'n Kirk he can hold down a job in musical comedy. That was one of the best versions of "Agony" I've seen.

Depp's wolf wasn't the travesty I expected, and they didn't dial down "Hello Little Girl." I expected that would be the moment that half the theater would take their kids and scurry out, but not many did. God love the intenet -- people did a little research on what the story was about.

Rolling the credits over the final song was unfortunate. It has important lyrics ("Wishes are children") that were probably lost on most of the audience.

But... that's my only complaint and it's slight. The main takeaway is they did not screw it up, and that's great.

I liked the Lego Movie! Kind of snarky fun dialogue.

I didn't love (liked it) the Lego Movie, but I have no doubt that some of the people who worked on it have in fact done LSD or mushrooms at some point in their lives.

    They nailed it.

In terms of visuals, I'm still wondering what the hell I just watched. Kept asking myself if I was on an acid trip.

However, I will be quoting it for a long, long time. "I only work in black... and sometimes, very, very dark grey."
I was shocked by the visuals the first time I watched it, but I have really come to like it with subsequent viewings.

While it isn't ever going to be mistaken for classic cinema, it is my favorite movie that I've seen in 2014.

The wife and I always watch The Muppets Christmas Carol before Christmas.

Even though it took place during Thanksgiving I prefer Planes, Trains and Automobiles for a year-end seasonal watch followed by A Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation. My kids love A Christmas Story (partially because they swear my grade-school photos make me a dead ringer for Ralphie) but Home Alone is a must if they are around.

    Ok.

However I will contend that this post about DARKNESS! and NO PARENTS! is a real post.
