Re: The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care
An ape that doesn't know how to shoot a semi-automatic rifle while riding a horse is not an ape I want on my TV screen.

One would expect the recoil from firing an assault rifle would be more than most apes could handle...especially if they were riding a horse (which would also be rather difficult for an ape to do).

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Loved it.
"Battle for the Planet of the Apes" was my favorite of the old Saturday afternoon Ape movies and this is mostly an adaptation of that one.
Only gripe is that the cgi looked a little off at times, but overall thought it (the cgi) was great, especially the closeups.
EDIT: The apes on horseback is where it was noticeable, but they had to make that up out of their heads I would guess without live modeling. Still, overall very well done.
One scene that I loved was when Koba (sp?) was in the turret of the armored vehicle and it did at least a 360 pan of the battle and the apes advancing while driving forward. That was a cool visual treat.
As always with me and even in action/fantasy movies, character development/relationships is key and I thought it was very good in this movie.Last edited by Gurtholfin; 12-13-2014, 09:57 AM.

And since it's Hobbit weak...

Colbert isn't always his best with these staged skits, but the cgi is worth a quick look and they show a scene from Smaug's attack on Lake Town.
