      But the occurrence of those keywords here is minute compared to hundreds if not thousands of other sites. Likely just a dumb luck grab via the vbulletin intrusion.

        That's pretty much it. vBulletin occasionally and unintentionally creates new holes. Most of the time we are able to apply security updates before someone gets to us. In this case, the harm they did was negligible, but boneheaded coding at vBulletin in one of their updates left a hole. The intruders were able to post a sticky note with the redirect code because of that.
