Well that only helps the Wild if he isn't on the NHL team...which he likely will be, just doesn't seem like it helps them that much financially.

EDIT: How it does help is you'd rather spend $3mil on a scorer than a physical player like Clutterbuck.

Nino doesn't make 3 million, his actual salary is 900,000 if he gets all his bonuses, he will get 2.75 in salary, and I expect Cal to get about that much from the Islanders.
Yeah his cap hit is higher right now than Cal's but this wasn't a cap trade, this was a trade to make the team better and the Wild are not done,
Expect Seto to be traded, and Gilbert may end up being bought out.
Those would be cap moves for the most part.

I doubt very much that they re-sign Emery as I believe he wants to start and they picked up some Euro late in the season as the presumptive backup.

To most Hawks fans/reporters' surprise, Hawks are negotiating with Emery.

Can someone explain to me how the Cal Clutterbuck/Nino Niederreiter trade helps the Wild for salary cap reasons? Nino's cap number is around $3mil. Clutterbuck was at $1.5mil and set to get a raise but how much is he really going to get?
