Policies should have a basic minimum of coverage, much like you have in car insurance. Again, stop whining and using this as a proxy for your frustrations with your personal life. People get old. So how do you respond to the "If you like your plan you can keep it" promise from Obama? How were we supposed to know that if we like a plan that Obama likes too, only then we can keep it. And please don't try to say that there are better plans instead they can get because that's not what was promised. Why did he say it? Did he know it wouldn't be true?

While I haven't spoken to him recently, I'm guessing he was speaking in generalities as most of the population (those with employer insurance, those on Medicare, a good portion of private insurance, etc) won't see any changes.

buster and Dr, I appreciate your perspective as always, but I'm not sure I'm expecting the medical profession to cease to exist because of Obamacare. Its sounds a little like people telling us billionaires will stop trying to make money if their taxes go up 5%.

Umm, estimates now that 51% of company insurance will be cancelled as well:

It turns out that in an obscure report buried in a June 2010 edition of the Federal Register, administration officials predicted massive disruption of the private insurance market.
the administrationโ€™s commentary in the Federal Register did not only refer to the individual market, but also the market for employer-sponsored health insurance.

Section 1251 of the Affordable Care Act contains whatโ€™s called a โ€œgrandfatherโ€ provision that, in theory, allows people to keep their existing plans if they like them. But subsequent regulations from the Obama administration interpreted that provision so narrowly as to prevent most plans from gaining this protection.

โ€œThe Departmentsโ€™ mid-range estimate is that 66 percent of small employer plans and 45 percent of large employer plans will relinquish their grandfather status by the end of 2013,โ€ wrote the administration on page 34,552 of the Register. All in all, more than half of employer-sponsored plans will lose their โ€œgrandfather statusโ€ and get canceled. According to the Congressional Budget Office, 156 million Americansโ€”more than half the populationโ€”was covered by employer-sponsored insurance in 2013.

Another 25 million people, according to the CBO, have โ€œnongroup and otherโ€ forms of insurance; that is to say, they participate in the market for individually-purchased insurance. In this market, the administration projected that โ€œ40 to 67 percentโ€ of individually-purchased plans would lose their Obamacare-sanctioned โ€œgrandfather statusโ€ and get canceled, solely due to the fact that there is a high turnover of participants and insurance arrangements in this market.

They are the Administration's estimates. Or are we to the point now where we assume everything they say is a lie?

Rover, you are far too smart to even think either of us are hinting that. Medical practice will go forever-simply because it is a necessary profession-people neeed help in dealing with death and disease. But will most certainly change-and you can take this one to the bank-is that the care you will be getting will not be for the most part by the most qualified person to give it. And even at that-the care you will get will be what is the most economical and not the most beneficial. This is not all new to the ACA-this has been slowly increasing going way back to the 1960's(and yes i am old enough to remember). The scientific advances in medicine have been wonderful-but we are talking about the availability of quality and qualified care. Doctors will be practicing as employees-unable to choose the best possible diagnostic workup nor the most effective treatment. They will have to do cookbook medicine and diagnose and treat based on what costs the least to their employers(who are not trained to diagnose and treat). Personally i am very worried-not as a physician-I pretty much practice now totally pro bono so this does not affect my income at all-but it most certainly affects me as a patient who also has to wade through the medical process to see a phyciain who can adequately diagnose and treat myself and my family. Please do not knee jerk react to this-consider that what i am saying is based on a lot of personal experience. if others can show that their experience in medicine is different, feel free to comment. What part of "lets see how this plays out" are you struggling with? Why is it when the CBO says this will be deficit neutral they're full of $#%&, but then when another govt document has an estimate that you like its gospel? This is why opponents have no credibility.
