yet, PPACA also allows young people to stay on their parents' policies until age 26.

    kind of contradictory, eh?

Ummm....what if the parents are unwilling to pay for their adult kids? Or if the parents don't have insurance?

I took a look at how much health insurance were to cost me if I were to elect to get continuation coverage. I'm better off paying Uncle Sam.

Happy for you that you're in a position to gamble. I'm not. And insurance is expensive and I despise everything about it.

We've already had this discussion with him. His calculations are based on putting zero value on having insurance. So, if the fine is 200 bucks and insurance costs 201, he'd chose to not get insurance. Libertarians like to keep it simple.

I guess you haven't been watching or reading the news lately. It's been splashed all over. The young and healthy have to overpay relative to their risk level. It's an integral part of PPACA, they deliberately designed it this way.

You seriously haven't seen any reference to the fact that if not enough young people enroll, it won't work??

              That doesn't mean they're overpaying.

How is this different from the current system? Last I checked my employer doesnt offer me a lower rate on insurance than they offer older employees.

So Obamacare is so unwanted that the sites crashed from too many people trying to use them?

Of course we all know that websites never crash when a huge influx of demand occurs.

Almost hilariously Obamacare's website could have been showing porn and it would have gotten zero coverage due to the shutdown crowding out all other topics. (settle down Mookie I just made that example up ).

This is why I don't get Republicans. The rollout will of course have glitches. If I'm a righty strategist, I want maximum attention on those glitches. In short, I want it to dominate the news cycle. Gee...what's happened entirely because of the very people who want to bring down Obamacare that's made this a non-story? Isn't anybody at RNC headquarters screaming over the phone at House Republicans to just pass a CR & debt hike for 6 weeks so you can gin up negative press on the roll out? Does anybody use their brains over there anymore?

Just wait until they default on the debt. Then the fun really starts.

When the government mandates demand, of course there will be a huge amount of traffic on the first day everyone is required to start purchasing the product. They didn't design to handle peak needs.

You're not required to have it until March 30 this time around. Given how many people wait until April 15 to file their taxes, I doubt Billy Bob the self-employed gun dealer was trying to buy insurance yesterday rather than waiting til the last second.

I think a lot of people have been hearing the October 1 date and therefore making the purchase today, assuming it's the required purchase date. In fact, even though I'm not the foremost consumer of news, I'm fairly well informed by most accounts, and I knew nothing of the March date. I was thinking it was on January 1 when the penalty phase began.
