Blue Dog Democrats found a home in the Republican Party. Big Government Social Conservatives is the GOP. Even the Tea Party believes in Big Government ideas like marriage amendments, Voter ID, and trans vaginal ultrasounds. They've gone where they belong.

All you have to do is add "amiable grandfather" and you've just described all the criticisms of Ike when he was president.

That's intrusive government, which is different from big government. I'd say those issues give the lie to the Tea Party's claim to care about individual liberty, while their insane military spending gives the lie to their claim to care about fiscal conservatism.

Intrusive Government is Big Government. It all falls under the same umbrella.

That's because there's two of them. There's the TEA Party, which is concerned about individual liberty, and then there's the "Tea Party", which was created by the GOP as "shiny" (call it lipstick on a pig if you want) to promote their product, and has nothing to do with the actual TEA Party.

Neither of them opposes trans vaginal ultrasounds being mandatory before having an abortion.

                Bingo.

Too bad BOTH of the current parties want big government. This is why we need the rise of the Libertarian party.

That may well be true, but even if the ostensible messages are different the membership seems to overlap about 98%.

Fans of "conservative" civil liberties who vote for the GOP remind me of fans of "liberal" civil liberties who vote for the Dems. Yeah, I suppose you are getting 5% rather than 0%... but you're still ONLY GETTING 5%!!!

Percentages perschmentages. You think it's such an overlap because your receptors hear "tea party" like the Catholics hear "sin".

Perhaps, though I have my doubts....The most serious criticism I recall was that he played golf too much, and there is another criticism they share.

You have to admit though that DDE had quite a record of accomplishment before he was elected!
