  • Incredible Story of a Hockey Town Getting Shunned and Then Getting Redemption!

From 2004 til 2010 The Butte MT Roughriders of the Junior A Nor Pac League not only finished in last place every year, but they would typically only win 2 or 3 games each season. Then in the fall of 2011 The 7 other Montana teams of the Eastern Division of the Nor Pac Hockey League started up their own league (AWHL) and left Butte behind in the Nor Pac to play with teams from the West Division in Washington and Oregon.

Butte couldn't afford the travel costs and had to fold just 6 games into the 2011 season!!

Fast forward to 2012, The AWHL is holding their showcase in Helena MT and their ice making equipment goes completely to hell. Where do all eight teams, all the scouts and the entire showcase move 60 miles to?? You guessed it!!! TO BUTTE!! You cannot make up something like this!!!

Sounds like they were the "butte" of the league.
