The idea of Republicans waging a "war on women" seems a bit droll to me.
Uh, huh.
Embattled Rep. Todd Akin, who on Tuesday repeated his decision to remain in Missouri's battle for U.S. Senate, said in an interview published Thursday his opponent, Democratic incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskill, was more "ladylike" in her 2006 election than she is this time around.
In recent days, however, prominent Republicans, including former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, and South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint, have come out in support of Akin.
Great Link.
I don't quite understand the Molson/Labatt split. Blue Moon surprised me too.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election Part II -- Charlotte, a National Treasure or sede vaca
Republicans simply don't appear to understand that women are judging them harshly for the actual effect of their policies, not for some unsubstantial reason.
I don't think Republican policies are born of sexism -- those policies seem to be consistent with their "big business, big military and biblical literalism at the expense of everything else" mentality. Maybe the biblical literalism part is misogynistic at its source, but I doubt its modern believers are -- it has simply become a traditional framework of life.
What does seem sexist, though, is Republican men thinking they can explain to the little ladies what's good for them because, apparently, in their view women are so shallow and fragile that they just can't figure it out for themselves.
Here's the deal, Republicans. Women are rejecting you not because they're confused or "wildcats" or misled by some liberal city slicker with his fancy words and promises.
Although national party leaders, including Mitt Romney, have denounced Akin’s comments and urged him to get out of the race, some conservative elected officials and activists have stood by him. The GOP senate campaign committee issued its statement of support a day after the deadline for Akin to withdraw had passed.
Re: 2012 Presidential Election Part II -- Charlotte, a National Treasure or sede vaca
The right is more extreme than the left simply because they're in a down cycle plus the political world they envisioned in the post Reagan era has turned out a lot differently. The most far right members of the party tend to the be the people in the 50's and 60's who can't get over the fact that we're not electing "Reaganesque" Presidents. For the good of both the party and the country, these people need to either pass from the scene or continue to dimish in ranks because its absurd to think that a period of time that occured over 30 years ago has any relevance to today's current political atmosphere. I remember the 1980 election somewhat, and I don't recall too many references to 1948. Given that fact, I fail to see the 2012-1980 connections either.

Akin doesn't help them, obviously, but my point is it's even way beyond the vaginal probes and all the other creepy stuff that seeps out of the Leviticus Belt. It's about health care and education. The Republicans have been waddling around the globe for the last 20 years saying "if you can't harvest it or downsize it then bomb it." That appears to appeal to a certain type of insecure male. It doesn't sell to women at all. Oddly enough, women seem to care a lot more about matters of substance and don't respond to the same dog whistles a lot of we x-y chromo types do.
There are almost no "blue dog" Democrats left; there are few "RINO"s left. Yet surveys of party affiliation also find fewer people identify with either party.
From what I know, the end of the blud dog democrats is a great thing. The blue dogs were gigantic government, hard core social conservatives. Its the one thing this board can unite around.

Standing O for this.
The blue dogs were the O&M tail of the same southern conservative Democrats who opposed desegregation and voted down Head Start programs while they were shoveling billions of federal dollars to agribusiness and cancer sticks. The world is a better place without them.

To me its the Iraq war and the financial collapse. GOP could always count on the reflexive belief that they, no matter the individual candidate, were the ones to protect America and manage the economy. Both of the those concepts now seem like a cruel joke. Who really believes Mittens is gonna keep the world safer than Obama? I mean, you've got to be kidding. Who also thinks borrowing money for top level tax cuts will stimulate the economy? Take those two things away and their take on social issues, which has remained largely unchanged since their heyday in the 80's, gets a lot more glaring.
