He has a herpa-derp accent so that's a floor of 48%. Throw in his money, his pals' money, the national exhaustion that usually follows an 8-year hold on the WH, and the apparent lack of a serious heir to Obama, and I'd give him even money today.

If you looked beyond his last name at what he's actually saying, you'd be surprised how much there is to like about Jeb. He's a far better candidate for common sense (debt control, military cuts, etc.) than either Obama or Romney. Of course, the shallowness of our electorate means his last name will make him un-electable anyway.

And Romney went on the National Talk Shows with Ryan and 1. Praised Obamacare, and 2. Had no details whatsoever on his proposed new tax policy.

He's a bumbling idiot.

To be fair to Romney, he never thought he would actually have to talk to "you people" during the campaign.

He always looks vaguely annoyed that he actually has to appeal for votes. In the business world you just buy shares and take control. That's what Republicans mean when they say they want to run government "like a business."

Obama tops 80% in the 538 Chance of Winning algortihm. The predicted EV right now is 320-220, with popular vote 52-47.

VA is now listed as 77% chance for Obama.

NC 57% Romney.

Obama also outraised Romney in August, $114M - $112M.

I read elsewhere that Romney pulled his ads off the air for a week or so in Ohio. He plans on starting up later this week.

His foreign policy stances are rigidly neoconservative. You're not the only person who has looked past the last name. Jeb would be the same old smashmouth garbage -- a diplomatic disaster for everybody but arms dealers.

No matter who they run the GOP must pivot on immigration. It has always been their long-term strategy to drive a wedge into Hispanic support using religious conservatism. 2012 is the last time they will be able to run an angry old white male election. They can't close the gender gap because of their Biblical misogyny, so they will get younger and browner in a big hurry.

See, I know that's the popular analysis, but political parties don't always act rationally. I don't think 2012 is the last "angry white male" election. I say they double down in 2016 in the event of a 2012 loss. Nobody on the right feels that Romney is a True Believer, and they're going to try and run one next time around. I'm curious if there's any moderate that you see waiting in the wings to make it through the primaries.

I think Jeb can run a campaign stressing the American Dream in a positive way. On foreign policy he has extremist views, but he doesn't really have skin in any other game (other than the usual ploy to keep tax rates low on the trust fund set). He has a lot of room to run an inclusive "compassionate conservative" campaign.

And as we learned with Dubya, it can be BS. Republicans learned a long time ago to run to the center and govern to the right. That's what makes Romney-Ryan so interesting. They are actually running to the right.

I wish it were so that conservatives would speak up against Romney. Two problems, however. 1) You were thinking of "FOX." I have no doubt that CNBC is just as liberal as CNN, ABC, or MSNBC. 2) That was actually content from the New York Times (DNC owned paper) that they had linked to, so the Romney opposition is even less surprising.

If prices don't drop below $4/gal soon, Obama will probably just dump some of the strategic reserve to bring prices down in October. Any President, regardless of party affiliation, would do just the same as part of a reelection bid.
