Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 4: The Rudy York edition
Don't buy in the Lynn Henning piece on Francona. Best line: "Dombrowski was starting to agree with fans about Leyland's odd decisions on penciling starting lineups." Hmmm. Being that Dombrowski has a heavy say in personnel, I can't buy that. He loves Leyland and this whole angle about him wearing out his welcome after 7 seasons is a crock. I don't care if the bat boy reincarnated as Sparky and wrote the lineup, you can only play with what you have. We all agree that hanging on to Inge and Raburn as long as they did was a consensus, not just a Leyland call. Frankly, I think Henning should go, as much as Leyland and his staff should go, too.

Gage also wrote a story or two a week or so ago.
This is a departure from what these two usually write, which leads me to believe that something is in the works if they miss the postseason. Neither one of these guys are Rob Parker-type ****-stirrers.

Milone v Sanchez today. Can't really predict anything, because with Sanchez we'll either be down 6-0 by the third or he'll have a no-hitter going through five.
For KC and CHW it's Guthrie vs Liriano.

Gage is credible, IMO. Henning was riding his coattales. Francona is a friend of Leyland, so I don't know how comfy he'd be taking over. Ilitch is getting impatient. The Sox took a flyer on a rookie coach that seems to have the right stuff. Maybe the Tigers need to look at new blood instead of a retread, too. Either way, we know that even with the holes in the lineup (especially at 2b) and with Martinez out, this season would be a roller coaster. Leyland's decisions have cost the team a few wins, while other guys in the every day lineup not named Jackson, Fielder or Cabrera have struggled. Same with our pitching staff where our relief has faltered and our starters have been irratic. To go from 96 wins (with several of the guys having career years) to maybe 86 -89 wins this season is not acceptable.
Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 4: The Rudy York edition
2-1 in the 4th. Laird with another big hit to give the Tigers the lead, then Infante gives one back with a horribly botched double play ball.
I think this is a big one, because if they win here, Oakland looks like they're ready to go into freefall mode, and the wild card may not be out of the question quite yet. LAA is still ahead of the Tigers, but with them playing the White Sox, somebody has to lose those games.
